it feels like there are now several feature marketing reminders/popups i need to close on my paid zoom account each time i start/end a meeting contrast that with Google Meet, which has continued to improve in quality and, aside from a Gemini upsell every now and then, JUST WORKS

The view from the 88" cyclotron at Berkeley Lab. Some clouds and fog hang over the san francisco bay area seen from a high elevation. The campanille of Berkeley is to the left, a tree to the right. The bay runs through the middle of the picture with san francisco, the golden gate bridge is visible in the distant right. It is early in the morning, and I think conveys a feeling of coolness, beauty, and scale.

When my grandparents passed away, their will stipulated any remaining inheritance be divided across all their grandchildren in 529s to be applied to their college payments. Given that means I won't be paying their full tuition, that's essentially them giving me the inheritance with extra steps. 🤷‍♂️

In college, I'd go to the Berkeley public library and get books on early Apple, Oracle, Microsoft. Anything to read on Silicon Valley history. My girlfriend mocked me, saying that with my mass communications & poli sci majors, I'd never be part of it. Anyway, I hit 15 years at Google on Saturday.

Mini-inflation story: 2025 I get two 5 packs of socks from Costco that usually retails at $12.57 for $9.07. They're great! 2026 I decide to standardize on them. Sold out. I Google for them and see them on Amazon for $40 a pack. Sold out at Walmart. End up buying them on eBay for $22.
