This is just great to see. The ~1/3rd of UK BioBank with GP data already shows the utility but going across the entire dataset will allow far more insights - a reminder that UK BioBank participants have generously consented for their data to be used for research outcomes.

Absolutely stoked to have this published in @plosbiology.org We looked at the metabolism of #Klebsiella pneumoniae 🦠🧫. We not only demonstrated lineage-specific #metabolism, but that lineages can cross-feed and support each other. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/... #MicroSky #microbiology 🧬 🧪 💊

A metabolic atlas of the Klebsiella pneumoniae species complex reveals lineage-specific metabolism and capacity for intra-species co-operation
Why are there so many co-circulating Klebsiella pneumoniae clones? Using genomics and large-scale metabolic modelling of >7000 isolates, this study identifies structured, clone-specific metabolic spec...

Genome-wide screen to identify Escherichia coli gene knockouts hypersensitive to trimethoprim and chloramphenicol. Top left: Schematic showing the screening strategy for identifying hypersensitive gene knockouts from the Keio mutant library. All mutants were cultured in LB and LB supplemented with trimethoprim (TMP) and chloramphenicol (CMP) at their respective IC50s. Top right: Distribution of drug-susceptibilities of Keio mutants grown in indicated growth media obtained after normalizing the growth of each mutant to wild type (set to 1). Mean ± S.D. derived after fitting each distribution to a Gaussian function are shown. Bottom left: Analysis of gene functional categories for hypersensitive mutants compared with the frequency of genes in each category encoded by E. coli K-12 MG1655. Percentage of the total in each case is provided above each bar. Bottom right: Comparison of hypersensitive mutants identified in the trimethoprim and chloramphenicol screens shown as a Venn diagram. Representative genes from each set are named and gene names are colored by functional categories.

So happy to share this! Bacteriocins were first discovered over 100 years ago, but what do they actually do? We look at >1000 bacteriocin plasmids and find links to virulence and antimicrobial resistance, and frequent bacteriocin sharing in Enterobacteriaceae. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I miss my grandparents, born in Barcarena, a town near Belém in the Amazon, of humble origins. They earned their living from harvesting crops from sunrise to sunset and sailing from river to river to pay for my father and his brothers' studies. What drives my research? My roots!

Absolute gold-standard work here. For your #Acinetobacter and #Klebsiella needs, upgrade to Kaptive 3 today! 1) More accurate capsule predictions on poorer quality genomes 2) Sets a precedent for how to build a systematic and robust capsule database 3) ~1 second per genome

🤔 Yes, I agree! However, it is real, and people should be concerned about it and talk! I tested many bioinformatics tools, and when I opened the “black box” of some, they had a tendency inside, and if we removed the AI, it stopped.
