That's the goal, IMO, and with Book Riot and your own newsletter, if it's not true already, you're on the right track. Your work will be shared whether you're here or not, and you could always make your account a feed and push people to engage with you directly via email instead.

You're doing important work and your audience is here, for better and worse. It's not a great platform by any stretch, but it's not nearly as indefensible as Twitter yet.

You can't, and shouldn't seek to, replace public schools or libraries with bookstores. You can't replace a public good with a private business, no matter how well-meaning or well-organized it may be.

The Cards Are on the Table

In the months following Paul’s appearance on the Hoopla podcast, the “wake-up call” for librarians has only grown more urgent.

With support for library ebook legislation continuing to gain support in several states, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Authors Guild (AG) have spent the summer rolling out a convoluted campaign in opposition. From a rambling 9,000-word policy paper and a misleading local op-ed attributed to James Patterson to, most recently, a questionable economic study—commissioned by the AAP and AG, prepared by a Washington D.C.-based litigation consultant called Secretariat Advisors, industry lobbyists have deployed considerable resources to portray digital library lending as a threat to the publishing industry.

Imagine publicly saying you can't be bothered with cleaning up the data that helps drive your discovery and sales, and suggesting "AI" can do it for you. Are you f**king kidding me?!? #cmonson www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...
Miller took a somewhat different stance, suggesting that, with the rapid changes happening in the realm of discoverability, publishers should be prioritizing quantity over quality in their data sharing right now. He wondered if there was an opportunity for publishers to “provide information in a less structured way to retail partners in a way AI could consume it,” and implement standards down the line.

The more you understand what "AI" is and isn't, the more you understand its limited potential in book publishing, where the lack of standardized data across the supply chain — even with "accepted" standards like ONIX — remains a systemic obstacle to so many more realistic initiatives. #cmonson

Railroads are one of the sectors where the potential for automation is actually intriguing, and the authors do something few journalists or AI advocates ever bother with, clarifying the differences between the various things being marketed under an "AI" umbrella.
