Maybe It Will Happen Today @today-maybe.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
A digital illustration. Seen mostly in silhouette (with some hints of detail if you zoom in) we see Sisyphus in his classical Greek togs against a reddish orange background. He is working very hard to shove an extremely large, roughly spherical boulder up a very steep grade. Large letters carved into the side of the boulder facing us read ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

it would be nice if more people had some concept of respecting boundaries regarding sex, and also possessed the ability to understand that discussing consent is not "steamroll the other person while ignoring their clearly stated limits until they either block you or give in"

i feel that i've perhaps made some unfortunate choices when it comes to referring to the particular incision (i have four total) through which they dragged my extremely inflamed gallbladder. i have nerve damage there and it's swollen and tender. "my hole is really sore today," i said.

gallbladder surgery recovery has been a little rough. the glue on the main incision mysteriously disappeared very fast and the incision has been leaking (but isn't infected, at least) and it all hurts worse than any other surgery of mine except the mastectomy.

I can't seem to feel interested in FNV. I've tried playing it twice, plus tried Let's Plays and streams. Elden Ring also left me cold. Everyone praised the characters and the story so much, but it didn't work for me.

even if you are able bodied, i strongly recommend a shower stool or chair to everyone. it's extremely nice to just sit the fuck down sometimes after a long day, or when you need to contemplate your life choices, or if you want to deep condition your hair, etc. we, the disabled, do not gatekeep them.

Stop putting off getting that accessibility device. Need a cane? Get it. Showering too hard? Buy a chair. Grabby sticks are great, you should get one. Doesn't matter if you can muddle through without it, if it will make your life better, get it.

As a veteran of two eclipses, the first of which turned me into a lifelong eclipse chaser, my advice is to put your phone down and enjoy the freaky experience. The pros will get great photos and you only have a minute or so to experience totality.

In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.

counting the days until my gallbladder goes away. i try not to be upset that they've been making me wait since the beginning of may but sometimes it hurts so much (even when i eat nothing all day) that i can't think clearly or sleep, and i feel like it simply is not significant to my doctors at all.

new meds have been helping a lot but i think we might need to do something in addition for times when something triggers me. i had a very difficult night because i got stuck in traumatic memories, which hasn't really happened like this in a while and i'm not sure why it did last night.

This is how we live on earth, a flock of sparrows. The darkness, a magician, finds quarters behind our ears. We don’t know what life is, who makes it, the reality is thick with longing. We put it up to our lips and drink. ~ Ilya Kaminsky, ‘Dancing in Odessa’ (2004) #Painting by Miyake Wakō.

It is true, if you’re benefitting from Disabled Adult Child benefits, you will lose them if you get married and your spouse has income. I guess the government just assumes they’ll become your caretaker, which adds all sorts of weird dynamics to what is presumably a romantic relationship.

is there an actual reason why dialogue in movies is at 0.5% volume and the sound effects and music are at 5000% volume? i have an ungodly migraine from the latter, and barely heard a single word the characters said.

i'll say three things for the new meds, despite the headache: 1. i have kept the dishes done 2. i've been drinking tea every day again (tea has been a hobby for 23 years but has been neglected for a while) 3. i took pictures outside the other day for the first time in years.

Timely, hopeful & crucial article from @annamerlan.bsky.social. Here’s a key excerpt to carry in your heart this weekend & beyond.
“If you lose culture in your society, the society dies,” Rollins says. “If you lose your art museums and your galleries, all you have is thugs and fighting and people being mean. In times of trouble, art gives us the backbone to keep fighting. It gives you inspiration…You want to rebel against this awful war and this awful situation we’re in, you don’t take your eyes off the ball. But it’s not bad to have a soundtrack. Keep your eyes on the ball and have a beat.”

Art and culture are “what you have to lose with an administration like this,” Rollins adds. “They hate science. They hate literacy. They hate women. They hate nonwhite people. They hate LGBTQ people. Those aforementioned groups, they make things that make life great. They want to eradicate it and erase it. You can do more than one thing at once. You can entertain many things. And so you can be concerned and fight the good fight, and you can also put a record on and love the Cramps.”

i wish more people had the capacity to recognise and honour real art, real music, real human effort, etc, even when it is not to their specific taste. the song i'm listening to is not my thing, but everyone who made it worked very hard on it and that is easy to see for me and respect.

children's movies that talked about grief and loss were the only way i could try to understand my own feelings about my grandfather's sudden death when i was seven because my family wouldn't talk about it, nor let me talk about it or go to the funeral. films like these are VITALLY IMPORTANT.

One way you can show Microsoft your concern is here through the XBOX Player Voice feedback platform: feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/ide...
Yesterday’s layoffs at Bethesda Games Studios were not a cut of “14 layers of management”. We lost dozens of programmers, artists, designers and testers. Many of whom worked at BGS for decades.

If Bethesda fans are worried this will harm the quality of our future games, like TES VI, let Microsoft know!

Today is the 250th anniversary of Boston’s mass inoculation against smallpox on July 3, 1776. The city was effectively closed to commerce from July through September 1776. The mass immunization effort was cheered as evidence of true independence. Here's how I described it in my book:
While John Adams and fifty-five men in Philadelphia debated a resolution on independence and the final wording of the Declaration of Independence, the people of Boston declared their own independence from smallpox. The measures taken in both cities provided hope that America would not only be a republic free of a king but also a country free from disease. On July 3, 1776, a day after independence was declared in Philadelphia, the Massachusetts General Court voted to allow inoculation. Despite the dangers of infection, the people of Boston and the surrounding areas cheered the news. Ezekiel Price, a court official and insurance broker, declared “Liberty is given for to inoculate for the small-pox; many begin upon it this afternoon.” Hannah Winthrop described the scene: “Boston has given up its Fears of an invasion & is busily employd in Communicating the Infection. Straw Beds & Cribs are daily Carted into the Town.” She wrote that “Men Women & children eagerly crowding to inoculate is I think as modish as running away from the Troops of a barbarous George was the last year.” Dr. James Warren wrote to John Adams that the “rage for inoculation” had “whirled me into its vortex.…” Warren and his wife Mercy Otis joined Abigail Adams and her four children who had been invited to be inoculated at Abigail’s uncle’s house in Boston along with Abigail’s sisters Elizabeth Cranch and Mary Shaw and their families. Even though Boston was teeming with the sick, the prospect that the city could conquer smallpox made it "a scene delightful indeed." Cotton Tufts was satisfied that he could now "take my leave of Earth, satisfied that the Day of American Redemption was at Hand."
