A busy day for staff from the Edinburgh office of AECOM at our visitor centre. They rolled up their sleeves to help get it ready for our Summer's End event on the 25th of Oct. Then they took to the river, removing several bags of waste to keep the river healthy Top work team

🚲 edi.bike | issue 165 | 5th Oct '26 Further delays on St Mark’s Park bridge; Spokes count in Centre, bikes over 30% of rush hour traffic; Edinburgh Bicycle folds, but lives on; Cargo Bike Carnival this Sunday; plus events, infrastructure, route closures & more: buttondown.com/edi.bike/arc...
A semi-aerial photograph over a wide, four-lane road flanked by large sandstone houses; there are many trees and bushes in their front gardens, and the street is fairly quiet in terms of traffic, flanked by bollarded cycleways under a bright sky with large, fluffy white clouds.

1/ ♿ When is a pavement no longer obviously a pavement? Accessibility on Leith Walk was discussed again at our September meeting, following this article featuring LCCC member Alan, who is blind and has worked with us to highlight problems: www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinbur...

As the development on the former Booker site progresses, work on the new bridge crossing also progresses. Currently CEC are approaching suppliers for the design stage of the bridge with the hope to work quickly on this. A stakeholder meeting & site visit are being organised in the next few weeks.

Great write up from our Secretary in the latest edition of the Currie & Balerno News on how well the Hailes Quarry junior parkrun has progressed since we initiated the project to bring it to communities in the southwest of Edinburgh. One of our best bits of work. 😀

We spotted the scythers out there this morning. Great to hear more tree planting coming to the mounds there. The first batch from earlier this year look to have settled in well. 😀

🚲 edi.bike | issue 164 | 28th Sep '26 ‘How we could turn Edinburgh into a real cycling city’; Edinburgh Delivery riders unveil a Fair Work Charter; Minto St to Craigmillar Park Corridor; plus events, infrastructure, route closures & more: buttondown.com/edi.bike/arc... #bikeSky #edinburgh
A person rides a bike up a sunlit street in the evening; a pedestrian waits to cross outside of a classic pub frontage for ‘The Conan Doyle’ with a black facade and golden trim, with hanging plants outside. The weather is dry, and in the background we can see rising sandstone and glass shops and offices under a blue sky, as well as the steps leading up to a cathedral building as passers-by pass by.

This all sounds very familiar after similar issues re ownership and responsibility with the Burnside path in previous years. More soon.

Longstone Community Council @longstonecc.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
We expect that to be clarified soon, although we knbow CEC maintain the grass alongside, tarmaced the path, installed lighting columns along it, and a handrail, so presumably they were ok with doing that work previously.

& additional concerns raised from older residents. As things stand, the "Councils estates team have been contacted with regards to ownership as it is not a path that has been adopted by CEC roads department and actually sits out with the boundary of Redhall Park."

Incredible! Should’ve been an easy win. It’s crazy how long it takes to deliver improvements to communities literally running towards CEC asking for change. This should be simple, good will and outcomes banked by CEC. Depressing.

Welcomed a fantastic 48 young folk who ran, jogged, and walked around the course. Girls were dominating today with Isla claiming an impressive first place while setting a new female course record, & claiming most of the PBs. We all know girls are more resilient in the tougher weather of course. 💪
