I’ve had a conversation like this at every networking event I’ve been to in the last year:
The umbrella academy driving meme. Chekhov is driving from right to left and making eye contact with Five as he drives left to right.
The captions read:
Top: diversifying into animation because the games industry is a binfire
Bottom: diversifying into games because the animation industry is a binfire.

I think Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner had mentioned being surprised that nothing was really happening when talking to Michael Dorn on their podcast. I didn't even know about the theater showings for the original movies until yesterday.

Hi, this is your seasonal reminder to back up your computer, your cell phone, your voice recorder, your memory cards, anything you think is important. Make multiple copies, because hard drives fail and are very expensive right now. Sometimes you drop you phone into a lake. Do it sooner than later.

The only thing I've had to keep coming back to Google for is image based searches which, sadly, all the alternate search engines just aren't there yet.

It's taken some getting used to but I'm slowly coming around to Zen as a browser. It's structured around being tab based and while I've never really been a big tab person I'm liking what it's doing.

LRP: If you haven't already been de-Googling your life, and taking back some privacy, now is a very good time to start. Switch your browser to LibreWolf or WaterFox. Use DuckDuckGo instead of Google. LibreOffice instead of Google Docs. You don't need to let Google run your life.

My biggest advice for youngsters: take pictures of the places that matter to you. Your home, your bedroom, your classrooms, the stores you frequent, etc. You'll probably have plenty of pictures of the people in your life, but the spaces change and disappear, and they're a wonder to revisit.

Stop fucking using genAI. Not even for a joke, not even for that oh so cutting political satire. Every time you use it, you are actively taking food out of our mouths. You are using the weapon of the enemy. We do not need it.

I agree. As someone who likes both Murder by Death and Clue, Clue holds up as the better film. Murder has some inspired casting choices and nice jabs making fun of the mystery tropes but a large portion of the jokes just land with a thud.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.
“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

I think it was airing on my local broadcast TV when I tried watching it when I was a teenager. Missed the beginning and had no idea what was happening. Eventually gave up after sitting through a little bit of it to go find something else that made a little more sense.
