The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

“US prosecutors say Chinese groups used Binance to launder $61mn from Iranian oil deals” 🤔 www.ft.com/content/a383...
Binance pleaded guilty to US criminal charges in 2023 related to breach of anti-money laundering laws and paid a $4.3bn fine. The group's founder Changpeng Zhao pleaded guilty to failing to protect against money laundering and was sentenced to four months in federal prison.

US President Donald Trump pardoned Zhao in October last year, as he has embraced cryptocurrencies during his second White House term and overhauled US regulatory oversight of the industry.

I’d be willing to bet (but not on Kalshi) that before Vance lost control, he too would dangerously try to ramp up the weaponization of tools Doctorow discusses here to try and prove his bona fides, because that is the kind of spiteful, sniveling person he has proven to be.
More likely is that Vance - a weak, unimportant charisma-vacuum who is loathed by all of Trump's factions - will end up presiding over a far more chaotic period in American governance than anything that happened under Trump. That could mean ICE leaders ordering mass graves dug in the centers of America's largest cities, drunken generals invading random countries, podcasters declaring "The Purge" with brackets sponsored by Kalshi.

Manosphere grifters have figured out that some men are easily manipulated by making them feel insecure about their masculinity. The GOP has turned this sales pitch into both an ideology and a campaign strategy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Any man who goes online today is apt to come across content telling him that he will never find a partner who will earn him the respect of other men if he lacks money and connections, if he is not bodybuilder-fit with a full head of hair, if he is not more than six feet tall. Online influencers who push this narrative have products to sell. They want you to buy their workout apps, their advice sessions, their investment plans. That’s just how a lot of advertising works: It makes you insecure so you’ll pay for a product in hopes of temporarily silencing your gnawing sense of inadequacy.Just as the manosphere and its galaxy of hucksters want you to fork over your cash so you can feel better about yourself as a man, Republicans want to make you feel insecure about your masculinity so that you vote Republican. Masculinity, in this sense, is a lifestyle product: one that comes with a set of political beliefs predicated on the subjugation of women, minority groups, and anyone else who men are told are their inferiors.
