Any fellow adoptees struggle maintaining relationship with adopters? 50+ years of being a NPC in someone else's story has become intolerable. It's one thing to feel invisible, it's another to be reminded at every interaction. Is it that hard to ask how I am occasionally? I'm at a loss.🥚 #adopteesky

Spouse & I are traveling w/ our bio-kids plus my adoptive mom & adoptive brother. Challenging because the biological mirroring & ease we have w/ our kids highlights what always was, and still is, lacking in my adoptive family. We pretend but it's fake. And on some level, we all know it. 😬 🥚

Adoptees, what do you do when meeting adopters with young adoptees in real life? At a funeral on Saturday, I told a new acquaintance that her daughter was beautiful. Just small talk. She replied, "As soon as I saw her photo, I knew she was meant to be ours." Oof. 😬 🥚

Adoption answers a child's desire "I want my mommy" w/ severance & abandonment to strangers. The best interest of the child is maintaining that primal relationship while mitigating harm. Yet, the racist & colonialist adoption system prioritizes interests of sellers (agencies) & buyers (adopters). 🥚

The matter-of-factness with which this was communicated. As though no harm was done. Adoptees, what childhood comments trigger silent rage? Mine are "your birth mother loved you so much she gave you away" and the weird false promise of "you can look for her (bio-mom) when you're grown-up." 🥚

Adoptees are born into families that they are forever linked ro by lineage. We are the sum of generations of traits. Nothing changes that. Our "forever home" was taken from us by adoption. Adoptive parents can play whatever denial games they like, but in crucial ways, we aren't their kids. 🥚

Any adoptees struggle with the holidays? 🥚 To avoid fam issues on both sides, spouse & I take our kids (now adults) away for xmas. Last yr my spouse wanted me to invite my adoptive-mom. She went from "I have no plans" to "you're adopt-bro said he's coming to my place for dinner" in two breaths. 🤦‍♀️

Adoptees who have relinquished, is this the doubling down of an exploitive system or something else? As an adoptee, I support fellow adoptees stories and experiences full stop. But the relinquished choosing to relinquish seems to me to be a special kind of heartbreak. 🥚

I think about this often. What happened during the 30 days between relinquishment and placement with APs?? Social worker thought APs might not want me because, despite what the paperwork said, I looked Jewish to her. Was I ever alone with this hateful person? 🥚
