I really enjoy compiling my book packs for @badgerlearning.bsky.social, and have written a short article about some of the new additions for this year. As always, I’ve tried to include a wide range of fiction, poetry, graphic novels and non-fiction. www.pandorabooks.co.uk/jon-biddles-...

16 teaching job applications this term, and once again zero interviews and 15 schools/Trusts sending form rejections saying they don’t give feedback. Six years since my PGCE now. How is anyone getting a job in teaching these days? 😭 #teaching #ect #pgce #didcovidruinmycareer #justwantachance

What I Mean When I Say I'm Tired ~ K.E. Sermonté "I want quiet. I want the mercy of being unseen without being unloved."
What I Mean When I Say I'm Tired

I don't mean I want to sleep.
I mean I want to disappear for a while.
To be rain on a stranger's roof.
To be smoke rising from someone else's fire.
I don't want to die.
But I do want to rest in a way
the world has never allowed me.
I don't want comfort.
I want quiet.
I want the mercy of being unseen
without being unloved.

If you ask someone today to name the builder of Hadrian's Wall, they would give you a funny look. But historical memory is odd, and right up to the 1800s we forgot who built it. Until in 1840 John Hodgson, an obscure Northumbrian clergyman, published the LONGEST footnote in history... 1/22

The plum you're going to eat next summer doesn't exist yet; its potential lives inside a tree you'll never see
in an orchard you'll never see, will be touched by a certain number of water droplets before it reaches you, by certain angles of light, by a finite amount of bugs and dust motes and hands you'll never know. The plum you are going to eat next summer will gather sugar, gather mass, will harden at its center so it can soften toward your mouth. The plum you're going to eat next summer doesn't know you exist. The plum you are going to eat next summer is growing just for you.

Let's kill "comics are a gateway to reading" dead please?
A two panel comic of Loki from A Bad God's Guide to Being Good. In the first panel he's looking breezy and innocent and holding up a book. He's saying, "I think it's great that children read prose novels." In the second panel, he's looking more mischievous and saying, "It's a perfectly GATEWAY to comics."

My #Carnegies2026 predictions lists! I do this every year but this is the most I’ve been successful with ever, both at longlist & shortlist. Definitely need to read Popcorn & Lizard Nobody as those seem to have slipped under my radar! Fantastic to see more funny & genre books making shortlist too!

This is so true. 99% of book bans have the intended effect: you never hear about those books again. The 1% of banned books that become infamous bestsellers elsewhere are not the norm.
