Unzipping and kicking away the sleeping bag, she bashed her shoulder into sharp stone, pain shocking through her arm. London sat up, her cheeks itchy with dried tears. She breathed deep. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light.
She remembered where she was.
Of course it was a dream. The worst parts of her father only showed up in dreams. When you loved someone, it was to ignore how much they hurt you.

I mean, I read a decent chunk of Middle English in college. Not a ton, but a good little chunk. I took exactly one class (on Catholic Mystics) with texts in Olde English and it was so difficult I quit within two weeks.

Lots of smarter people than me have been commenting on this, but.... no. I have to hope this is a misunderstanding, because Olde English is tentamount to a foreign language. It would potentially be cool? But would definitely need subtitles. And I just don't know that a Hollywood cast could do it.

She is far from perfect (i.e., I did bad math and then had to fudge the numbers) and took a year and a half extra to finish, but my 2024 Temperature Traveler's Shawl is done. Minus weaving in the ends of the second half of the year, which is going to be am endeavor all its own.

What strikes me as I listen to this today, is that this family very much reflects the "great" MAGA is trying to get back to. Perfect family breakfast, bridge and martinis in the afternoon, the "children's hour," a cigar for dad... absolutely burning the world for that ideal.
