I encourage the use of hashtags when posting about General Conference 1) because the feed will be better if you use them, and 2) it allows people who don't want to see a bunch of posts about General Conference to mute those tags. #ldsconf #genconf #generalconference

As @gregsargent.bsky.social points out, Talarico is using biblical arguments to underpin his pro-immigrant message. At the end of the day, though, if Dems win big, including in Texas (and that's a big IF), it might be because of a big swing against Trump's ICE writ large. bsky.app/profile/greg...

Something remarkable is happening: James Talarico is running an expansively pro-immigrant campaign in Texas, a state Trump won by 14 points, speaking in Biblical terms about our duty to "the stranger." And it's resonating. That's seismic. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/2160...

In Texas, Something Seismic Is Happening—and It’s All Trump’s Fault
Thanks to the economy and ICE, Trump has lost Texas Latinos. And James Talarico is developing a humane pro-immigrant message that’s resonating—even in this ultra-Trumpy state.

Shower thought: Toilet paper manufacturers should put a warning stripe that you're close the end of the roll like receipt paper manufacturers do.
End-of-Roll Warning Stripe image showing receipt paper on a roll and pointing to the pink or red portion in the center of the roll.

Red warning line signals the roll is nearly finished and ready to be replaced.

Easy to spot. Never run out.
The pink warning stripe appears as the paper nears the end-giving you time to replace the roll and avoid interruptions.

A deeply fascinating report by @prri.org on demographic trends among Latter-day Saints in the US shows that fewer raised in the faith are retained as adults, whereas more are converts and immigrants. Meanwhile, LDS religiosity is decreasing and more are endorsing socially liberal ideas and policies.

Thoughts on the U.S. Central Presidency Letter on Abortion
I’m mindful that I am now the second male from BCC to post about this topic in as many days. I realize that (no matter the situation) I will never have to personally make a choice about whether or not I will have an abortion. And, so, I come to this issue as an outsider. And frankly, I am quite aware of my outsider status; and it is my outsider status that informs my reaction to the letter. But I’ll get to that in a moment. First. Sam is exactly correct: if the Church wants to take a stand on important moral issues, we are swimming in them.

It was eye-opening, for me. I didn't expect my mom to be as against the current laws as written in Idaho. I think the church coming out against the proposition has made her think a little harder about whether to support or oppose the proposal, but she's going to study the proposal carefully.

The Church, Idaho, and Abortion
Yesterday, I saw some chatter on social media that the Area Presidency had instructed the leaders of Idaho wards, stakes, and branches to read a letter to their congregations over the next two Sundays, urging members to oppose the Idaho Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act. After some searching, I found what purported to be the letter, though I was skeptical (it didn't look or feel accurate). But now the Deseret News and the East Idaho News have reported on it, pulling out phrases that are in the document I found through my searches, so it looks like the Area Presidency has directed this letter to be read.
