Tonight’s moonrise behind the Seattle Space Needle. It was a perfectly clear night for some beautiful moon photography!

Last night’s Harvest Moon over Seattle. The clouds made it feel even more dramatic as it rose above the Space Needle and the Cascades. Also called the Corn Moon, this is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox.

An airplane crossing the crescent Moon Tuesday night. With no depth reference in a single frame, the plane can look like it is flying toward the Moon or away from it, even though it is simply passing in front of it. I love that tiny bit of visual ambiguity.

It seems like it was just a little while ago that the sun was setting right on top of the Brothers. Now it’s already almost to the treeline. Crazy how quickly the sun moves along the horizon.
Golden sunset over the Olympic Mountains and calm water, with a bright reflection stretching toward driftwood on the shore.

I swear the sky was trying to do everything at once tonight. A thunderhead, a rain shaft, a rainbow, and Seattle all lined up across Elliott Bay.

Monday’s moonrise over Seattle looked completely different from the night before. Smoke and haze softened the Moon into a warm golden glow as it rose above the Space Needle and city lights. 🌕✨

Tonight’s moonrise over Seattle was filtered through layers of smoke and haze, giving the moon that deep orange glow as it climbed behind the Space Needle. The clouds drifting across it made the whole scene feel especially dramatic Sunday night.

An ethereal moonrise over Seattle tonight. Ribbons of wildfire and Blue Angels smoke painted the moon in deep red and amber, softening its usual glare until it looked almost otherworldly above the Space Needle.

One of the harder moons I’ve photographed. The haze never gave it a clean moment, but the first shot turned into this strange dark sun situation that feels like eye yoga. Sometimes the atmosphere gets in the way. Sometimes it becomes the photo.

The sky felt like it was opening tonight. A pillar of light rose from the sun, a sundog glowed beside it, and an arc seemed to crown it. Spiritually, it felt like alignment, protection, and a reminder that guidance does not always arrive quietly. Sometimes the sky makes itself impossible to ignore.
