1/ US regulators were ordered by a Trump Administration political appointee to stop investigating suspected insider trading relating to Donald Trump's March 23 announcement that he wouldn't bomb Iranian power plants. The move is said to be "unheard of". ⬇️

Pen and watercolor

Cowboys again. This time one of our boys has lost his boots. Standing in a field of long grass the cowboy points towards the ground and shouts back to his colleague, “Lil bone people got muh boots.” This makes no sense to the other cowboy who sits atop his horse away from the action. He responds, “Lil wut?” Sure enough in the foreground we see a squad of little bone people scampering through the grass with the stolen cowboy boots. They’re thrilled. How the bone people got the boots off the cowboy is unclear.

Artist’s note: I tend to draw drawings from the same perspective (straight on) most of the time. This idea came about when I was goofin around trying to draw a character from a lower angle. I like that the story unfolds with the foreground, mid-ground, and background all working together. There’s a draft of this one included in the Spooky Pants book. Coming out next week!

Part of the reason why you can’t make a real leftist or non-fascist politics around influencers and influencer media is that at its core, this group’s political culture and political economy is centered on manipulating people for money, which is at best anti-democratic and non-consensually coercive.

These people had protected status. They lived here legally. They worked, they paid taxes. They made lives. Raised families. Now we’ve dehumanized them. Ripped away that protection and told them to get out. This is a stain on the soul of this Nation.

That basic problem -- the problem of the information environment, which I've banged on about for 20+ years now -- is upstream of *everything* else. There's no simple fix. It's certainly not going to be fixed with clever word choice or policy proposals. You have to shift the deep mythologies.

One last key point here is that earnings in adulthood correlate significantly with the wealth of the family into which one was born. So this policy will incentivize “smart” colleges to admit more rich kids because they’re more likely to become wealthy adults than poor kids.

A great blue heron takes flight at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado, with the Boulder Flatirons rising in the background.

In this vertical color photograph, a great blue heron fills the frame in left profile as it launches from a tree branch with its wings raised high, preparing for flight. The tip of its left wing extends beyond the edge of the frame, emphasizing the bird's impressive wingspan. Warm early morning light bathes the heron and the surrounding landscape, highlighting the rich colors and textures of the scene.

The background features the recently restored bank along the opposite shoreline, which also serves as the levee for St. Vrain Creek. Beyond it, the iconic Boulder Flatirons rise beneath Colorado's brilliant blue sky.

A magnificent action photograph capturing a great blue heron taking flight in the wetland habitat that is essential to its survival.

Fascism in the 1930s was fueled by false or exaggerated stories about collective guilt, depicting white Christians as the victims of racialized interlopers who were supposedly working in leagues with “radical left globalists” and who deserved whatever “defensive” mob violence they encountered.
By the mid-1930s, Coughlin had become a vocal critic of the Roosevelt administration, and he attacked Jews explicitly in his broadcasts. In the days and weeks after Kristallnacht, Coughlin defended the state-sponsored violence of the Nazi regime, arguing that Kristallnacht was justified as retaliation for Jewish persecution of Christians. He explained to his listeners on November 20, 1938, that the "communistic government of Russia,'
" "the Lenins and
Grotskys,...atheistic Jews and Gentiles" had murdered more than 20 million Christians and had stolen "40 billion [dollars]...of Christian property." Following this broadcast, several radio stations refused to broadcast his program without pre-approved scripts. A few stations in New York cancelled his programs.
