Today in why your librarian is stressed: academic journals increase in cost about 5% every single year while our funding continues to, at best, stagnate. And that's just the things we already purchase, much less the new acquisitions our patrons need or want.

I have babysat a number of friends' kids over the years, and under no circumstances would I let a 5 year old walk to a body of water alone. It has nothing to do with how much I trust the kid, and everything to do with the many (dangerous) factors outside their control.

Here's a neat thing! My mom retired after 25+ as a children's librarian at public libraries yesterday. (It was very cool! Hundreds of former Story Hour kids arrived, some as adults!) I let Ed Markey's office know in case they wanted to send a nice email back and they sent this! He's still got it!

The lesbian bar story is mean and small-minded and a lot of the people laughing about it have never done any kind of organizing in their lives. BUT it is a very good story about how communities get hijacked by bad-faith actors who are enabled by leadership that doesn't want to upset anybody.

Here in Perú there are always public health campaigns for vaccination and vaccines are free. They track your record with your national ID so you just walk up to the booth, they check what shots you need and if you need what they’re giving that day, you get the shot Today I got MMR booster & flu

My grandma was from northern Spain and to her this was a perfectly normal snack to give a small child. If I was really hungry she'd also give me some crusty bread and tomato slices to go with the sardines.

Couldn't be said better than this. On a personal level, I think about disability history. Historically and currently people say that including disabled people, providing protections for disabled people isn't fair. Inclusion for trans people is inclusion for me, is inclusion for all.

When I say it’s the only question, it is because of the question underlying the question. Which is, ‘Do people deserve dignity, rights & protections?’ If a qualifier changes your answer, whether it’s trans or Black or Palestinian, you have completely failed the trustworthiness test.

People say this question is not relevant to our immediate existential troubles, but I disagree with that. It is the ultimate existential question. The only one. Because trans inclusion is an immediate existential issue for trans people. Which means it’s a greater existential question for all people.
