Article vraiment très informatif venant de la CBC: "So, while Duhaime’s campaign rhetoric rings true for corporations, high-income earners, and childless individuals, Quebec's system of transfers means lower-income families actually face some of the lightest net tax burdens on the continent."

ANALYSIS | Is Quebec actually the most taxed jurisdiction in North America? | CBC News
With the rising cost of living front and centre in the Quebec election campaign, a familiar refrain has emerged: Quebec is the most taxed jurisdiction in North America. But is the claim actually true?...

Very disappointing to see influential urbanists keep pushing these false good ideas. Feels like planning from 20 years ago. 1) Towers immediately adjacent to transit stations are good. 2) Concentrating housing on arterials is bad. 3) 3-4 stories is too unambitious for Toronto's needs.

This side streets thing is the majority of bike routes in Vancouver and it's not that great. Aside from some prioritized crossing across main streets you're basically just biking on residential streets with no destinations on them, parking on both sides and drivers don't give you special treatment😪

Tactical urbanism is great not just because it calls out inaction on specific issues, but because it forces municipal leaders to actually make a decision for once, and not just hide behind the status quo as if it's the natural state of things.

Much to say about this article but I'll start with the claims that kids don't or can't live in "skyscrapers" (the building under discussion is 15 storeys) when the census data show that such neighbourhoods have way more kids than nearby low-rise. (left: land use, right: kids/km^2)

Decades ago, I supported mandatory helmet laws for people riding bikes. Then I was convinced by evidence and the bigger picture that such laws are actually counter-productive in many ways. This NZ article explains some. I support helmets, but not mandatory helmet laws. Build safe infrastructure.

David Seymour was right to question our compulsory helmet laws
There’s little evidence our mandatory cycle laws improve overall safety, and quite a bit of evidence suggesting they’re doing more harm than good.

I'm not sure that this strategy would be very successful ("basket of deplorables"?), but it's definitely more principled and less actively self-destructive than the sort of tactical neutrality we see these days - rhetoric so "reasonable" that we forget what our own values even are.
