honestly the most depressing thing to me is that we have to talk about this again and again and again and again and again. how to teach men to have human feelings, how to get people to believe us

Christa Pike was tortured yesterday by the state of TN in every single USians name and the fact is that this is a country that is mostly OK with this. This says everything about all of us. We are all implicated in this barbaric practice. It's sickening.

Have no faith in my ability to keep up with a self-imposed daily movie marathon anymore, but I wanna try it: Goji-tober! A foolish attempt to watch (nearly) every worthwhile Japanese Godzilla film. Hiatus imposed to attend a family wedding. Goji-heads, tell me what I'm missing or should skip!

Local Seacoast NH Snapshot - Week of September 25th, 2026: There's honestly mostly healthy, interesting stuff out there right now. FORGOTTEN ISLAND's a blast, if a tad overzealous. PRIMETIME's surprisingly entrancing. We just... aggressively need Brad Pitt and Evangars Andgema to go away.

We dragged our broken bodies to see Forgotten Island and it was great, you should see it! I always want to push for authentic emotion and relationships, and this movie has it in spades. We need more movies with heart like this. Also I laughed out loud at some of the things that got approved in this.

I bracketed out how this bracket would've gone if I chose the winners of every round. These winners would've definitely spawned early rumors of cheating & rigging the results. The final two were, coincidentally, the only two Disney songs I've personally sung at karaoke.

Best Toonout short by far, but also the only one Dropout's asked people if they want a full series of. Took a bunch of testing, but they finally realized what animation lovers are clamoring for is horny gay shit. Yeah, most of us knew that already, but some people gotta take the long way 'round.

I loved GOODBYE, LARA, and even appreciate its final moments. BUT it did objectively fail its viewers at the end. You can make the story you want to tell, but if you don't deliver enough on what people will find & connect to in it, they will end up feeling bitter.

By the time this merger ruins HBO, destroys WB, gets 5,000 people fired, moves production overseas, and guts the quality of the movies the new studio makes, most people will have forgotten how fast the AGs caved and how little they got in this deal. Writers will not.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"

Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

The classic refrain has always been: "Movies are about our heroes, TV is about our friends" Your heroes are in the same story every time you see them. Your friends are people you see about once a week or so and they're always up to something new.

Solvable but requires a studio to not be frozen by analysis paralysis. 1) 20 episodes per greenlight. 2) Greenlight a new season based on gut belief in it, not based on waiting until numbers come in. This was TV for decades. Movies you can wait around for numbers, TV you can't. They're different.

It is literally the most infuriating thing in the world that the answer to what a great Muppet Show revival is is the thing it originally was, that they tested it to massive success, both ratings-wise & critically, that it's not complicated to write at all... And they STILL won't make it!
