1. Fascinating listening to political commentators about the prospective Burnham Govt. With a few honourable exceptions, they are sounding so aggrieved that they haven't been consulted about policy and who gets what. Bleating on how nobody has any idea what they will be.

In a detail which will surprise no one, the first of the "patriots" to plead guilty to offences connected to the rioting in Southampton on Tuesday night has a criminal record as long as your arm, including.... possessing a knife.
The court was told that Frost had previously received 25 convictions for 55 offences, including an offence against the person in 2001, four public disorder offences between 2006 and 2011, offences of failing to surrender in 1999 and 2008, possession of a bladed article in 2009 and threatening and abusive behaviour in 2010 and 2011.

Today at noon during PMQs - just as Kemi Badenoch was calling for more oil and gas drilling - the UK grid was generating 32.9 GW from renewables alone. That's 77% of the entire grid from wind, solar and hydro. I believe that's the most renewable energy Britain has ever produced at once.
UK electricity generation mix at 12:00 on 25 March 2026, shown as a stacked bar chart. Renewables dominate at 32.81 GW of 42.72 GW total - 77% of the grid. Wind offshore (12.7 GW) and onshore (10.2 GW) make up the largest segments, followed by solar (9.9 GW), nuclear (4.5 GW), imports (2.3 GW), gas (1.4 GW), biomass (1.1 GW), other (0.6 GW), and hydro (0.1 GW). Gas provides just 3% of generation.

1. I do despair of the BBC & it's inability to stand up for itself and defend its values. The truth is they don't seem to know what they believe anymore. The rot started decades ago with their insistence on the outdated "2 sides of a story equals impartiality" approach.

The number of affordable homes relative to population in the UK has fallen by over a third since 1980. Moreover, under-investment in social housing has meant many low-income households instead live in the private rental sector.
As shown
in Figure 15, the number of affordable homes available per 1,000 people in England has
fallen by over a third, from nearly 120 in 1980 to just over 70 by 2023. It would take the
building of nearly 400,000 affordable homes, or over a quarter of the Government’s
targeted 1.5 million homes, just to return this ratio to 2010 levels.
