For that matter, I think a lot of the defensive anger at gay men from other men is actually from how acknowledging our existence preemptively threatens “making” them impose such restrictions on themselves. Something you ALSO see in this story.

You saw this with the way the logic of homophobia requires enforcing unprecedented levels of restriction on homosocial affection.

The logic of transphobia is pushing people towards demanding completely unprecedented levels of gender segregation.

In my head today: If they drive you to the crimin’, they’re a fed. If they drive you to the crimin’, they’re a fed. If you don’t know much about ‘em, and you can’t get there without ‘em, If they drive you to the crimin’, they’re a fed. (Don’t claim credit for this old meme, obviously)

Holy shit, POTUS just killed a bunch of Ukrainian civilians, seemingly because they didn’t back up his fake story about a ceasefire their enemies were ignoring. This is such a wild fucking betrayal.

I will say, my problem with the Laken Riley Act vote (besides the law itself, obviously) is that it undermines Ossoff’s best selling point—his hatred of the GOP and willingness to go balls to the wall to fight them. The LRA was a moment of foolish and pointless cowardice.

Well, I’d really like a tight labor market, anti-cyclical financial stimulus to individuals, and a broad and deep welfare state, tbh. All of which are inflationary policies.

The existence of moving chains has been documented in multiple cities across different countries using increasingly fine-grained and sophisticated data. The relationship between housing supply, demand, and rent growth is well known. Denying these phenomena is quackery.

This article quotes a sociology professor, a lawyer, and an architect who reject the notion that housing prices are set by supply and demand and do not believe that building more homes reduces rents. It is the housing policy equivalent of platforming climate change deniers.

It also suggests that there is no sustainable majority antagonistic to authoritarianism or in favor of basic civil rights, just a temporary coalition that hates inflation.

I mean that’s not true in all kinds of ways, but it’s the way it’s effecting them in a way they understand to be POTUS’ fault—but that’s also disillusioning for democracy because it means that it’s very hard to do leftist policy that is in any way inflationary even if it improves welfare.

“Textualism” is not actually a coherent idea—you are always importing a conception of purpose and intent when you interpret statute. And a decade and a half of practice demonstrate that parliament absolutely did not conceive of a strictly biological reading of sex (because it’s ridiculous).

Pollsters fed the list to voters, but I am genuinely upset that nobody is asking voters about the fact that we’re still semi-regularly murdering civilians in the gulf and the eastern pacific for no apparent reason.

I mean it’s disillusioning as fuck (and very bad for leftist policy longterm) that the electorate doesn’t think of the last 10 years as a generational trauma, but “6.50 diesel” is, but like… we have both now.

“Sex is read contextually in the statute depending on application and can overlap with gender identity and orientation in a variety of contexts as sex reflects a capacious social category as do all other protected classes covered by the Act.” Boom.

They absolutely could have and indeed, multiple state courts in blue states with shockingly similar laws DO, in fact, read it differently. They chose not.

Like the US constitution is RIDICULOUSLY hard to fix. The UK doesn’t have any kind of court-controlled super law. There is literally nothing that 51% of parliament couldn’t change. And certainly not a statute passed in 2010 and most recently amended LAST YEAR.
000
Lawsome @lawsomepup.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
“Parliamentary amendment” is literally just “a normal statute passed by a bare majority like any other law.” The government could do it literally today with its current votes. Moreover the SCUK decision does not command this outcome. Labour is ACTIVELY choosing this outcome.

The denaturalization push against Ilhan Omar is so much worse than even previous abuses of federal authority and investigative power. It’s not just that it’s a targeted investigation, but that it’s an effort to achieve something that could NEVER possibly be legitimate.

will try to answer these in a piece next week but for now i will say that part of the *point* of court expansion, in my mind, is to create a disequilibrium — a potential race to the bottom — that will force a truce.

I’m thinking about Article III protections for the current justices—having created the office of Supreme Court Justice as a distinct thing (rather than an administrative designation an Article III judge receives when selected to serve for a case), can we turn them into mere circuit judges.

The strongest argument for court packing is that any other lever of control is that it leaves the court as a power center to frustrate you. Burning its legitimacy is a feature BECAUSE it leaves the Court itself compromised and unable to directly oppose Congress during the trifecta term.

Lawsome @lawsomepup.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Calendar manipulation is the only one that achieves the necessary level of insulation during the term of the next presidency, but also has basically all of the deficiencies of court packing WHILE leaving the court majority intact as a power center to oppose you in violation of the calendar statute.

Lawsome @lawsomepup.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Okay, I’ve read the whole piece and the problem is that it fundamentally doesn’t cope with the fact that without a radical shift in membership, the federal judiciary CANNOT otherwise be reformed quickly and certainly as it MUST be in order to do the OTHER structural reforms necessary in this crisis.

Congress should pass a law deeming pardons issued to protect or support wrongdoing by an executive officer or the president, or which are otherwise self-interested by the President, are per se invalid and just rebuild the courts with people who will uphold it.

Lawsome @lawsomepup.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
I mean that would be great if Article V were functional. But it’s not and enables the same small conspiracy against democracy to hold the constitution hostage to protect themselves. I think a long term response is going to involve judicial cabining of the pardon power with legislative support.
