Today’s day at the office has been one of many parts as I have been following the attempt to break the 6 person English Channel relay world record. Currently held by the US since 1990 at 6 hours 52 mins, a team of Britain’s best swimmers are attempting to bring it home

I may be OOO but I will seek out a Parliament building, this time in the Maltese capital of Valletta. Sadly no public are allowed inside but my tour guide did reassure me that it has a single chamber which makes it cool. Also some interesting architecture which means it is both loved and hated

Farage complains that the Standards Committee is biased against him because it contains opposition MPs. Half of the committee are lay members. It is important to have MPs on there because it needs to be accountable to the House, but also because MPs understand the peculiar pressures of being an MP

Our project is SO lucky to have interviews with both Martin Bell and Neil Hamilton in our archive. For the first time we've been able to draw on the candid memories of both to retell the story of the Battle for Tatton, one of the most iconic election contests in modern British political history.

We should remember that Badenoch's words of 'Gestapo' and 'traitor' are in the context of 10 years since Jo Cox MP was brutally murdered and called a 'traitor' by her killer. Language matters, and downplaying them as 'hurty words' is egregious behaviour from the leader of the Opposition.

I wonder if Badenoch has read the Nolan Principles!!! "Holders of public office should ... treat others with respect. They should actively promote and robustly support the principles and challenge poor behaviour wherever it occurs"

It's to Starmer's credit that he has gone gracefully, rather than doing a Johnson and forcing ministers to pull down the government around him. Prime ministers can do a lot of damage in the manner of their departure, and it matters that he hasn't taken this course.

Agreed: politics is the art of persuasion, and Labour has lost faith in its ability to make and win arguments. There's a lot of talk at present about "respecting voters". The best way to respect them is to tell the truth: to treat them as adults who can take bad news and who understand trade-offs.

This investigation from the @sheffieldtribune.bsky.social is absolutely staggering. It is very common in Sheffield (I live in this bit) to have a leasehold, often with hundreds of years left on and pennies in ground rent. This is extortion pure and simple. www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/a-london-law...

Absolutely !!!insane!!! to me that the UK government, lobby and newspapers litigate at length every minor infraction by the BBC, rival newspapers, or what some random columnist has posted. But all of them just carry on not even commenting about this media owner. He’s not hiding, he’s telling you!

I find it mind boggling that our entire political class seems to be ignoring this. Musk is the owner of a major media platform that - as we’ve seen - can shape media and political discourse. And the official response seems to be head in the sand.
