Iowa House and Senate members are not all on the same page regarding the economic incentives bill being pushed through today. The bill had bipartisan support in the House, passing the Ways & Means committee 20-5. On Senate Ways & Means, all Ds and two Rs voted no in subcommittee.

There’s no spinning it: Republican pollster Cygnal found very bad numbers for Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird. 39.5% for Bird, 40.0% for Democrat Nate Willems among respondents who voted for Trump in 2024 by a 13-point margin. (from “KHOI’s Capitol Week”)

Latino voters are a significant bloc in some Iowa legislative districts, including House district 52 (Marshalltown, which Ds lost in 2024 and are trying to win back) and Senate district 1 (Sioux City, which Caitlin Drey flipped in 2025 and Dems need to hold). #ialegis

I have no idea what the partisan breakdown of Iowa's electorate will be this year but it's going to be better for Ds than 2022 for sure. In 2022, approximately 34% of Iowans who cast ballots were Ds, 41.6% were Rs, 23.5% were no-party Iowa's 2018 electorate was 34.5% D, 37% R, 27.7% no-party

I would not get too excited about this poll. -Registered (not likely) voters -partisan breakdown was 29% Democrat, 35% Republican, and 32% independent, which is nothing like a typical Iowa midterm electorate. Looks like they undersampled Ds and Rs and oversampled independents. -no weighting

I don't use paywalls. Not at my main website or for my email newsletters or podcasts. I keep it all free for 2 reasons: first, I believe everyone should be able to read the news regardless of what's in their bank account. Second: putting exclusive reporting behind a paywall benefits those in power.
