not limited to cis men, either. women who are not trans are rarely on the "top" of the power differential in interpersonal relations, so how they treat trans women is sometimes a reflection of how they act when presented with real, tangible gendered power. the answer varies widely.

if you try to google for that case, it’s hard to find the right one, because it’s so common that other cases will come up, like one in berlin, or the case of a 14 year old girl in vienna.

there was a very recent case in austria of a man who drugged his wife and sold her for rape, because the daughter found her dead mother.

there are chat groups with thousands of members were men organize to drug women and rape them. one man was convicted for this in munich this year, from a telegram group with more than 2000 people. he repeatedly drugged and raped his girlfriend, and shared videos in that group.

I'm kind of tired of pretending that "sense of brotherhood" is a real, meaningful term and isn't just a euphemism for men's spaces where they bond over misogynistic humiliation rituals and coach each other on how best to commit sexual assault.

i'm just saying that i actually HAVE encountered a bear in the woods while hiking, and it was scary, but i held still and it left me alone because it was just going about its business. and it was far less scary and way cooler of a story than the time a guy chased me to my apartment gate

We have gone long enough pretending the institutionally sanctioned rape clubs are something legitimate and worthy of continued existence.

It’s obviously extremely easy to hurt men’s tender feelings when we talk about rape culture (we’re talking about them or their buddies after all) but what will it take to make them feel afraid?

This is also sexual terrorism, every bit as effective as rape. This is yet another way men identify with rapists & worship the violence of other men. This is men acting as a class to defend their violent enforcement of the oppression of women. But why don't women report, eh?

perhaps one day this planet will come to reckon with how 5,000 years of so-called "human civilization" is built on the rape and murder of countless nameless women. when all institutions are fraternities, all fraternities need to be burned down. all "brotherhoods" annihilated for people to be free.

cis men are not oppressed by patriarchy and there is NO way to argue otherwise that is not inevitably, always, and ONLY a means of obfuscating gendered power.

people don’t realize how deeply entwined and integrated, top to bottom, the entire tech industry is with US imperialism, fascism, neocolonial exploitation, austerity, etc. Substack platforming individual Nazis is only a minor symptom of the structural role tech plays in US global power.

i am a serious proponent of the thesis that becoming aware of the existence of trans women and girls in a serious way, without exception, is a cognitohazard or memetic entity type thing that permakills their previous conceptual logic of how the world works and transforms them for good or bad

The right-wing organizing around the Lindsay Clancy trial is growing and it’s frightening. A lot of people overlook these culture wars revolving around women’s issues, because, well, they’re women’s issues. But the right doesn’t. It’s how they regained such a massive cultural foothold.

the idea that society and the legal system coddles women is preposterous. women are held to a much higher moral standard than women and are punished for deviating from their expected sex role.

When BLM was at its height, people were genuinely talking about internalized white supremacy and coloniality. A lot of people have described this as "cringe" in hindsight, but this was a profound question asking what prejudices go into knowledge production and how so many concepts are embodied.

The modern conservative project explicitly supports impregnating children. The trans panic, anti-abortion politics, fearmongering about "over-medication" and disability support: it all comes back to a patriarchal freakout about losing control over who they see as their reproductive property.

yu deng, the winner of the 2026 Fields Medal, the "nobel prize for mathematics", cites yuri manga in particular as helping ground and comfort him during his work
For comfort, Deng turned to manga. “I remember him at Courant. He was always holding a manga,” said Jalal Shatah (opens a new tab), a professor there who formerly chaired the math department. Deng particularly liked stories about deep friendship and romance and found himself drawn to a genre known as yuri, which focuses on those kinds of relationships between women — stories that “feel nice and warm and beautiful,” as he put it. They helped him be kinder to himself, “more comfortable with life.”

So, going to be very blunt: this entire line of thinking is deeply imperial core. THIS is the hegemonic, nationalist feminism. It's the perspective of a citizen of empire who was taught to see the suffering of the enforcers and soldiers before the suffering of their victims, of the colonized.
Yes, acknowledging the violence of men is imperative. Men have committed atrocities. Men have done unspeakable things. Men have hurt us.

But this acknowledgment is of limited use if we cannot also acknowledge that this violence has hurt the men who’ve enacted it. Men have created violence at their own expense. As difficult as it may be to face, the reality is that no man truly benefits from this system of patriarchal domination, either. All violence is senseless. The moment you murder someone else in order to eat, you’ve both lost. There is no winner. Ça n’existe pas.

The purpose of feminism is not to "fix men". Will feminism help men? Fuck knows, hopefully. But patriarchal politics seek to reduce women to dependents, to hoard politics and economic power in the hands of men and reduce women to property. The purpose of feminism is to free us from that condition.

sexual abuse is driven by 1) dehumanization and 2) political domination. its medicalization deflects attention from the structural drivers of sexual abuse like the patriarchy.
