Historic England outsourced their digital image provision to a third-party company. Then the company went bust and now all their images are inaccessible. Tell me again how outsourcing to the private sector is sustainable?

I have been trying to divest from Google as much as possible, so turned to DuckDuckGo for search. DuckDuckGo is terrible at phrase searching though: if you put an article title in quotation marks, it tells you it can't find it, when Google can find the article in multiple places. SIGH.

Yes, I'm sure there are between 3000 and 5000 business professionals just dying to think about early modern drama and seventeenth-century English manuscript culture. AI academic spam is hilarious (until you think about the environmental costs)
Body of an email:

Each month, we bring together between 3000 and 5000 business professionals around one featured book for a 30 day reading and engagement experience. Rather than simply putting a title in front of people, we give readers an opportunity to discover the work, explore its ideas, exchange perspectives, and talk about what genuinely stayed with them.

Dramatic Extracts in Seventeenth Century English Manuscripts particularly caught my attention because it looks at something readers have been doing for centuries without always realizing its significance. Your exploration of how people selected, copied, altered, appropriated, and gave new contexts to passages from plays raises a fascinating question about the relationship between a reader and a text. The idea that different readers can bring a work to life in different ways feels especially suited to the kind of thoughtful exchange our community enjoys.

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

Googling pseudonymous early modern tracts now often produces a hallucinated scholarly attribution. At first I would check the evidence, wondering if I'd missed something. Here's an example of how it makes up a scholarly consensus on attribution: Robert Parsons, Matthew Grove, Anthony Munday...
this time the AI attributes it to Munday. Here, it's printed by Shakespeare's dad. Here it's William Covell.

Left: from @isolyth.dev Right: my result Google AI: "I know there's not two Ps in Google, so there must be....one?"
Google:

how many Ps are in google?

Did you you mean:
how many O's are in google?
how many 0s are in google?

AI overview
There are 2 "P"s in the word "Google".
*Google (0) -> Goople (1) -> propeller (2)Google
question in search bar: how many ps are in google

[response]:
AI overview
There is exactly one "p" in the word Google (spelled G-o-o-g-l-e).

However, you might be asking this because Google's own AI recently became famous for confidently stating that there were two. This happens because of how transformer AI models work: they "read" text by breaking words down into chunks (or tokens) instead of letter-by-letter.

If there is anything else you need to verify or calculate, let me know!
