A sequel to one of my favourite games was recently released. I already bought it, but I decided to check the reviews 3 weeks post-release. Overall very positive, but some negative reviews start with "I didn't like the first game, and I'm disappointed that the sequel isn't better/different." WHY.

If they remove the recording capabilities—video and sound—they could still be used as real-time accessibility aids for folks with visual impairments, but not be a privacy and safety risk. I see the accessibility use for these, but as they are, they are dangerous and harmful.

One of those 21,627 applications is mine. Wish me luck? They plan to fund approximately 1,600 postdocs with this fund, so that's just over 7% success rate. I believe in my project and I think I have a strong application, but I'm sure the other 21,626 people feel the same.

The worst part of the Assisted Dying debate is people assuming it’s black and white. They think if you oppose the policy, you oppose giving people the choice. I support the right to die. What I don’t support is offering it to disabled people instead of medical treatment.

A family member chose MAiD last year. I'm so grateful it was a legal option for him to die peacefully at home. But... it needs to be a choice. There needs to be safeguards so doctors can't pressure disabled people into MAiD instead of working out treatment options. It only works if it's a choice.

There are browser extensions which allow you to coerce dark mode. User stylesheets can also achieve similar results if you don’t mind faff. But mainly platforms need to just let users download the book because all other options are bad, and are highly unlikely to comply with accessibility laws.

Does anyone know of a plugin or other trick to force the academic ebook access platforms into dark mode? If I'm able to download a book, I do that and read it on my Kobo in dark mode. But some books only have online access, and I'd love to be able to read those in dark mode too.

It didn't come up in the initial "Hey you are a Hugo finalist" email. But in later communications they did ask what accomodations I needed, and I told them that I'm a wheelchair user. I have also spent years STRENUOUSLY noting that access for MOBILITY SCOOTERS MUST BE INCLUDED.

I love a good footnote while writing. I am very pro-footnote. I make very good use of footnotes when I'm allowed to. However, now that I've been working on the audiobook and braille for my doctoral thesis (for accessibility), I'm really kicking myself for all those footnotes. 😅

I'm having a bad pain day—well, bad month if I'm honest—but I'm spending the morning working on 3D modelling for my tactile exhibit, and it brings me such joy. Working with these books again (after 3D scanning in archives) reminds me of how valuable it will be to bring them together in an exhibit.
