I really can’t get over what a rookie mistake it is to look the Government of Canada in the eye and say “We’re gonna need you to piss off Quebec.”

"You were riding in the morning, or at night, or on a quiet road, or a main road. The only time and place to ride a bike is a time beyond time and a place beyond place, where the space-time continuum is bent so strangely that you are both everywhere and nowhere." buff.ly/bSa1Wm5

When you talk about bikes you quickly realize that there are people who see bikes as a toy that you take out to the countryside on the weekends, and then the people who view bikes as an efficient urban transportation device that replaces a car, and it's nearly impossible to bridge that chasm

So many bike light triggers don’t work. City forces you to go something illegal on bike. Run the light or ride up onto sidewalk.

So tired of having to sign a petition or go to a rally every six months just to keep a single bike lane from getting turned back into on-street parking spots because people from the suburbs want to drive right above a subway line across the city.

There's an indicator species for evaluating the safety of your urban infrastructure, and it's not middle-aged men on bikes. It's women, seniors, and kids feeling safe enough to ride in their everyday clothes.

n the 1830s everyone in the USA knew that canal waterways were the future of commerce. Every state started building a canal network with the vision of hooking them all into a national network. In 1837 there was a Great Recession, and the tax base for the canal work collapsed. When the economy recovered 5 years later, the railroad boom was happening and everyone knew that canals were over.
That's why every city in the Midwest has a half-finished canal in it. This is a post about data centers

Once again need to remind everyone that the supposedly crime-infested hellhole of New York is one of the safest cities in the country in no small part because most people in the central area don’t drive. America has a much bigger car problem than a violent crime problem.

I know how the term is normally used. But if you bike for transportation year-round in all weather, and you’re active in advocacy for safe streets and bike infrastructure — I think you’re technically much more of an “avid cyclist” than someone who bikes for exercise on weekends in the summer.

I took some of the photos Paul used in the video to show people why I don't feel comfortable biking to work right now. Last year I think I only went a two week stretch without biking in winter, but this year I really don't feel comfortable with the road and bike lane conditions. #biketo

It has boggled my mind since I was sixteen that the moral hazard of driving does not weigh on literally everyone all the time. I hate it! I don't want to risk ruining or ending someone's life just to get to the damn grocery store, but where I live, I have to, every day.

I spent the last 5 days with a mix-mode commute: subway, go train and bike. Two mornings there were subway delays. In one case it cleared and I got to where I was going and in the other case there was a two hour closure and I had to go to a completely different go station to get my train.

Have you ever been in a car, seen someone you know in the street and tried to get their attention? It just doesn’t work and is a super frustrating interaction. More walking and cycling creates friendlier neighbourhoods as people can easily recognise each other, stop and interact.

I’m always confused when people complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs. The vast majority of drivers do a “rolling stop” (i.e., they don’t actually stop) when possible. This is so normal people don’t even see it as breaking the law, but when cyclists do the same thing, it stands out.

My biggest pet peeve about public transit policy is when its only purpose is seen as commuting to work. A good transit system is there to support all kinds of trips at all times of the day, not only office commutes. Groceries, football games, coffee shop trips, concerts, etc.
