@IndyMediaAus it doesn’t look too pretty in Australia either. All these regressive politicians allow people to yearn for a past the didn’t exist to create a future based on callously disenfranchising groups that they once called neighbours and friends.

@IndyMediaAus the point made that allowing new technology to be centralised is a recipe for large players to take control, which is central to our political life. Where else do get billionaires from if there are no mega businesses? It seems that governments that were responsible for setting up […]

Graphs showing each country and its number of bikes and cars per capita each graphed against the relative use cars and bikes for transport. NZ, Australia, Canada, and USA are the highest in car ownership and car use, and, while moderate to high in bike ownership, they are near the bottom of the world rankings for bike use in transport. Melbourne's Swanston Street, Town Hall Square, and St Paul's Cathedral. #Melbourne #city #photography #Victoria #Australia
The sky is purple and light blue for sunset. The focus is Swanston Street, which is the main semi-pedestrianised north-south street through the Melbourne CBD. In the bottom-left foreground, two cyclists are riding through.

Swanston Street is lined with winter trees with no leaves and street lights. It has tram tracks with overhead wiring down the middle.

In the middle of the shot is the glass canopy for the new Town Hall Metro station, a modern hotel, and a neo Gothic sandstone cathedral called St Paul's.

Along the left border of the photo is the corner of Melbourne Town Hall.

Subsequently we learn that EVs in Australia have added 3 days supply to the oil reserves. Another way to look at it is that EVs have reduced the amount of oil imported which reduces the amount of money going overseas to pay for it.

Turns out we don’t have to invoke weapons of mass destruction when talking about ocean heat uptake. The ocean absorbed a record-breaking 23 zettajoules of heat last year, equivalent to 40 times the energy used by humanity. It’s not going to end well.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
A figure stands in a barren landscape; reaches for the lever on a large, eccentric contraption covered in wires, pipes, dials and buttons; looks over towards two figures inside a bunker and says:

"'Trust me, it's safe' would sound a lot more reassuring if you weren't saying it from inside a concrete bunker."
