🤨 Despite cycling’s pandemic-era boom, Pedal Poll data show no sustained increase in cycling rates over time. Why? We could all speculate as to the answers, but more research here is needed.

Now that is a robust crosswalk #ottbike #ottwalk on a main street in #Aveiro, #Portugal
Two people crossing a sidewalk while a metallic silver car is waiting. A tactile black line runs to the centre of the sidewalk. Rather than paint, white and black granite cobble stones are used. The cross walk is zebra style. At the other end, several 3-4 story buildings are visible.

Today I have transported 1) a giddy child 2) an uncertain cat 3) a suitcase 4) a bottle of Prosecco and 5) a birthday cake by cargo bike. My family was doing a reno and had temporarily moved to a place without bike storage. We are so happy to be back home and back to our bikes 😁

IMPORTANT: The Dutch invested €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do math on investing in better mobility. Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it. #CityMakingMath HT @modacitylife.com

Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters Pave Way for Better Bike and Roll Routes
BC’s outdated legislation, which prohibits the use of wheelchairs and mobility scooters on bike and roll routes including protected bike and roll lanes was a hot topic at the 2024 BC Active Transportation Summit in New Westminster. Where high quality bike and roll routes exist, more and more people are using them to travel on wheelchairs and mobility scooters despite the provincial government asserting it is illegal to do so Tanisha Sepuleda of Disability Rights Washington (@DisabilityRightsWA) discusses how they use bike and roll lanes in the Seattle area, where it is legal to do so. Dr Brett Petzer, cycling infrastructure consultant at @Mobycon in Amsterdam, Netherlands, explains that wheelchairs and mobility scooters use “has made the coalition for good cycling infrastructure far more powerful.” Find our more about the Summit at https://bccycling.ca/at-summit-2024

Protected & plowed bikelanes enable year-round biking. Compare the beginning/end of this video to the middle - where I struggled to find a stable spot to ride (mashed potato-style snow on the street, inches of snow on parts of the sidewalk). 🤪 We should build more protected bikelanes.
