Close encounter with a hawk (falcon?) on our bike ride today. Took flight from a 10 yards ahead of us on the path. Didn't see it at first because I was distracted by a dead squirrel (maybe it's lunch). For a moment I wasn't sure it was going to clear my head. #ottbike Near Corktown and Moodie.

I don't keep kosher but for holidays it's nice to get some special treats. Biked out to College Square Loblaws today. Oy, the tariffs have made the kosher section untenable. I take it just about any shelf stable food stuff comes from American distributors. At least baked goods came from Montreal.

Celebrating the architecture of Labour on Labour Day: Grain Elevators, Rowley, AB; PSAC Building, Ottawa, ON; Ukrainian Labour Temple, Winnipeg, MB; Japanese Quarters, North Pacific Cannery, BC. Happy #LabourDay!

New fence at City Centre and Trillium MUP. Saw some folks panicking yesterday during install, worried they were blocking off the access completely. Probably a smart addition to reduce blind spot. #ottbike

Lovely morning for a long run. My headphones died at 1.5k. I ran sans music for the first time in a long time. It was nice on the Quebec side. Not so nice along Champlain bridge and parkway. Boo traffic noise.

More affordable housing lost in Mechanicsville. Not going to pretend this rooming house wasn't rough. But it was home to a lot of people. Property is part of a proposal including a 40-storey tower.

I was thankful my bike was still there after locking up near the Rideau Centre yesterday. I had a bad feeling. AND I just noticed I must have forgotten my lights were still on (I don't usually leave them on) because front and back lights and mounts are now missing.

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Quebec city loves its pedestal scramble intersections and... it's actually pretty freakin' annoying. No one really follows the lights and almost no one crosses on the diagonal to the point that I thought I was misinterpreting the purpose of the pedestal cycle.

àVélo bike-share in Quebec City only offer e-bike (pedal assist) bikes. My first time riding one and I'm not sure how I feel about it (for me and what I want out of biking). And yes, Vieux Québec is very hilly but a lot of the city is on plateaus. We encountered very few hills on our route.
