Likewise, Trump "permitting czar" Lee Zeldin has done virtually nothing in LA. Permitting is not what is holding up rebuilds - money is the problem. And Trump is holding up billions in federal aid to LA for no reason beyond spite. Nor has the admin taken action against insurance industry delays.

If Trump tears the Kennedy Center down, my heart will absolutely break. I won’t hate him for it, though, because I know that he’s just not capable of being better than this: he has a perpetually ravenous heart which fails to enjoy the privileges, compliments, statues and buildings he already has.

I got my first professional live theater job when I was 14. The play rehearsed at the Kennedy Center, all the way at the top of the building. I remember how thrilling it was to walk into that majestic building, just to go to work.

After graduating from college, I had the enormous privilege of doing a 9 month artistic fellowship at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We understudied their national tours, taught Shakespeare and playwriting in the public schools, and availed ourselves of the many perks available to us, thanks to the generosity of the KC and the Kenan Foundation.

When there was a call for extras on an episode of the West Wing that shot at the KC, hundreds of employees happily volunteered, including me. We were thrilled to contribute in some small way to a television show that was just as patriotic as we felt working at a national monument that celebrated the performing arts.

If that man tears the building down, my heart will absolutely break. I won’t hate him for it, though, because I know that he’s just not capable of being better than this: all these megalomaniacal compulsions of his are symptoms of a perpetually ravenous heart which fails to enjoy all the privileges, compliments, statues and buildings he already has.

But the scale and threat of this coming warming event is simply too large to ignore in the name of business/politics as usual.

States, cities, and counties should be immediately:

- reinforcing river banks and lakes against all time high cresting numbers
- increasing funding for fire fighting and rescue
- running geological tests on populated hillsides
- bolstering power grids
- building more tornado shelters, cooling and high ground centers
- increasing life guards and warning systems for beaches
- informing citizens of potentially life threatening increased risk

Instead the signatories of this cry for action see mostly silence and inaction.
