Let me give you the actual solution to this problem. Universities and colleges have to hire football players as union employees (AFL-CIO, same as the NFL), with no requirement to attend school. They get health and retirement benefits, and are limited to a five year employment contract.

At my film school we had three reel to reel film theaters and the students (me) were the projectionists. We had a few movie prints to practice and one of them was the 86 movie. I got to see it in the big screen more times than I can count in the 4 years I did it.
