Cory Doctorow laid out the Hugging Face attack really well here: pluralistic.net/2026/09/12/g... The short version is they had their LLM ingest a bunch of hacker forums, spit out a bunch of Python scripts, and didn't have a human checking anything before running it. It was negligence.

I'm going through classic indie games that I had tried but somehow not completed. Hyperlight drifter was great, Fury not so much and Fez was a fine, strangely relaxing experience (I got to 150% completion, I think).

Not only did this book win the award but the University of California Press, (formerly?) a renowned publisher when it comes to academic books related to Japan, continues to promote it despite being aware of the problems with it, which is not a great sign for the field or academia more broadly.

So, Hyper Light Drifter was really fine. Not astounding, but well worth the 7 hours I spent beating it. Among other things, I like the idea that (these) video game conventions are so entrenched that the game can pretend to be mysterious yet absolutely clear in various places (shops, coins, etc.)
