Ive got a short story called The Last Human coming out in the next Gaslamp Pulp edition. Its about the last human on earth living alongside robots and his struggles to cope with environmental catastrophe. Very absurdist. No link yet, but hopefully it'll be avaliable soon. #weeknightwriters

Sebastian is a neurotic little shit. Overanalyzes, bit of a control freak. He wants to know why his sister erased her memories of him, so he searches for her file, only to break it and come face to face with her ghost. Its what he wants, but comes to learn thats not what he needs. #weeknightwriters

I enjoy most aspects, but I think those little differences are the most difficult for me, like speech patterns, how they stand. The little defining characteristics. They never come easy and I have to sit down and really think about it. #weeknightwriters

I love letting my characters run wild on the page. Thats where most of their development comes from. I set up their inner conflict, maybe plan out a few beats, and then watch them crash into each other and see what comes out. #weeknightwriters

Definitely the core issue that theyre trying to overcome. It informs so much of the story, and influences how they connect with the main plot. #weeknightwriters

I usually craft stories based on the setting/story, since I consider people as heavily influenced by their environment. In my current work, #nightshiftnovel, my MC Sebastian is very much influenced by his past trauma and overnight work, making him a bit pedantic. #weeknightwriters

Hey all, I'm Kyle, working on a scifi novel about a guy that works at an institute that conducts chemical lobotomies to remove people's traumas and treat sleep disorders. School has slowed me down this fall, but Im still making decent progress on my WIP.

There was an Alberta independence sign on my route home that read: "True, Strong and Free, Vote Independence." Fitting that separatists would steal from the national anthem in their bid to sever from the nation. Truly the people of "whats mine is mine, and whats yours is also mine."

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

Gender euphoria can be a strange experience. The silliest things can spark such joy in me - today it was getting some food caught in my mustache. It feels so good knowing that my mustache is long enough where that can happen. Transitioning is filled with random delights.

I love this idea! My #nightshiftnovel takes place in the city my characters grew up in. It centers around Sebastians workplace (a neurological institute that conducts chemical lobotomies), but they also visit his childhood home. The book is all about childhood trauma, so they dont venture too far.

Y'know, between the dads who went out for milk and never came back, and the dads who went out for cigarettes and never came back, at least the milk dads were pretending to be good parents. They acted like they were providing for the kids, whereas the cig dads, we all knew they weren't coming back.

Lately, South Park has had a few prophetic moments, where their past episodes eerily resemble our present. Much like The Simpsons used to do. You know we're in the bad timeline when South Park is the show that most resembles our reality.

I saw a post where a conservative asked when a C would be added to LGBTQIA+ bc "conservatives are discriminated against too" and now I can stop thinking: Is conservative a type of gender or a sexuality? I could see it being either tbh.

This might sound ironic coming from a sci-fi writer, but I hate writing about screens. Whether it's texting, characters posting online, chat logs, etc., there's nothing more boring to me than reading about a character's social media engagement. It's boring to read, it's boring to write.

Gender affirming care for trans people is safe, effective, and has a lower regret rate (4%) than almost any major medical procedure. It saves lives. These are facts. The right's talking-points are recycled "they are coming for your children!" scare tactics well over fifty years old at this point.

As a professional *human* audiobook narrator, this is a huge help. The more we can push back against the use of AI becoming "inevitable", because it is no such thing, the better off every single person and the planet will be.

One of the (many) reasons why AI pisses me off so much is because it's forcing artists, students, writers, creators, etc., to have to PROVE their work is human-made (recording time lapses, track changes on documents, etc.) It's not like these groups aren't already overworked and underpaid.

Im editing the nightshift novel atm and I just realized something. In my book, there's a spectre of an old rich white lady (literally a ghost of a living person) and she attacks my protagonists by banshee screeching at them until they're incapacitated. Like wow, that's not even a metaphor.
