We welcome confirmation today from the Equality and Human Rights Commission
(EHRC) that, following our formal complaint, it has written to the Green Party to establish the facts surrounding its "Zionism is racism" motion and its practical implications.
The EHRC has also acknowledged the vulnerability many Jewish people may be feeling following the motion.
Antisemitism and discrimination have no place in British politics. We welcome the EHRC taking our concerns seriously and look forward to its further consideration of this matter.

Dear Mike Tapp MP and Mark Sewards MP,
Thank you for your letter of 6 October, in which you and a number of your co-signatories made a formal complaint about the Green Party's "Zionism is racism" motion. You and your colleagues are concerned that Jewish people could face discrimination within the Green Party because of their beliefs, following the adoption of this motion. You have asked the EHRC to consider opening a formal investigation under section 20 of the Equality Act 2006.
Regarding your request to obtain the relevant evidence and consider opening a formal investigation of the Green Party, we will assess all the information you have provided. The EHR receive regular complaints about allegations of unlawful activity contrary to the Equality Act 2010. We consider each complaint carefully and following that consideration take action where appropriate. In this case, we have written to the Green Party to establish the facts about the motion, including the action points set out in the motion and their practical implications.
We recognise that many Jewish people will be feeling vulnerable following the Green Party's motion. In order to help ensure all political parties comply with the Equality Act 2010, we provide guidance on our website advising them of their

with the Equality Act and take steps to avoid discrimination. This could include reviewing party policies, practices or their application to identify areas of potential discrimination, harassment or victimisation that need to be addressed.
In the case of the Green Party motion, compliance with the Equality Act is likely to hinge on the practical effects of the motion.
As Britain's equality regulator and a national human rights institution, we recognise the right to free speech is fundamental to our democracy and must be protected, even when dealing with complex and sensitive issues. Similarly, the Equality Act 2010 protects against discrimination, harassment and victimisation on protected grounds. These rights and protections are not mutually exclusive and must be considered together. As part of our duty to foster good relations between different groups, we urge those in positions of authority to balance these rights appropriately and respectfully.

Think of it less as bias, and more: it’s snobbery and hierarchy. Badenoch is a ludicrous, disastrously online clown but she is leader of the Tory Party, and that makes her a real person who matters, supported by real people who matter.
