I somehow saw smashing pumpkins at least five times in the 90s (festivals &/or opening act) and they were terrible every time.

great album. before they shafted Drozd. I haven't heard anything about his solo album in a while. I liked 'Let There Be Rock' and 'New Years' and I want to hear more.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

I support City and have since the late 80s when they were broke & terrible. I'm sickened by the cheating & support whatever punishment the league hands down (I sincerely hope it includes forced sale). They've been around for 132 yrs. Let's see what happens before declaring fans must abandon ship.

AITA for correcting my girlfriend's family every time they mispronounce my turtle's name?
I have a turtle named Geoff. Yes I know Geoff is normally pronounced Jeff. His isnt. My girlfriend's family knows this and still calls him Jeff basically every time his name comes up.
His name starts with /dz/ instead of the normal American English J sound /d3/. So regular Geoff/Jeff is roughly /dzef/ and his is /dzef/. They are similar but they are NOT the same consonant. /d3/ is a voiced postalveolar affricate and /dz/ is a voiced retroflex affricate. Basically you make the beginning of "Jeff" with the tongue farther back/retracted, which gives it a harder, deeper "dzh" sound.
I'm really into etymology and historical linguistics so the spelling was intentional too. Geoff is already a weird spelling from a modern English perspective because gives you basically no reason to predict /dzef/ unless you already know the name. Obviously I am NOT claiming medieval Geoffrey was pronounced / dzef/. I

They can't "beat the backlash" because these *are* pervert glasses. Regardless of legal opinions on expectations of privacy, people are tired of being recorded. I think the backlash will (and should) intensify.

Big names in AI and Silicon Valley tech announced yesterday that they're launching a boarding academy for 16 to 22 year olds. (Would you trust the people in this scene with keeping an eye on minors?) theacademysf.com
Thrilled to announce our latest incubation: Horowitz Andreessen Academy.

Horowitz Andreessen Academy will be a two-year residential program in San Francisco for 16 to 22 year olds.

My biggest regret from my college experience is how divorced it was from the real world (both practically but also intellectually)

HAA is the opposite. Students will learn from real-world practitioners and intellectuals; including founders (Sam Altman, Brian Armstrong, Jensen Huang), investors (Elad Gil, Daniel Gross), and professors (Agnes Callard, Tyler Cowen), among hundreds of others. The Academy is the educational experience I wish I had.

In 1984, the educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom published a paper about how the average student who received one-on-one tutoring focused on mastery techniques performed better than 98% of the control group. For generations, this was viewed as unrealistic to implement even if it produced the best outcomes.

The destruction is intentional. They don’t care if this loses money. This is not meant as an entertainment offering. This is a cultural and political project meant to destroy Christianity in the Western imagination, and they’ll happily lose money to do so.
