The replies are wild. Strong feelings on both sides of this meaningless issue. That said, espionage comes to mind when I think about people bringing coffee to job interviews.

Amazing. Another bizarro trip back to 92. I had to look up "Bobby Soul" aka Roger Kabler and he's a Robin Williams impersonator now.

After a several hours long Lambchop marathon I've landed on Kurt Wagner's delightedly weird electronica side project HeCTA. Somehow I missed this when it came out in 2015.

The story of the USSR's first McDonald's comes to mind.
Soviet people were so accustomed to rude, boorish service that when they were faced with the polite manners and beaming faces they were completely shocked. In fact, the customers felt so uneasy while being served by someone who was smiling that the McDonald’s chiefs asked their employees to smile less!

The entire story is infuriating but this bit really highlights the calculated depravity of the ghouls involved.
The Justice Department had built a case against Colony Ridge with “stark and overwhelming evidence,” Clarke told the news organizations. Prosecutors said Colony Ridge repeatedly misled consumers about the condition of lots they purchased, forcing them to spend hundreds or thousands on drainage improvements and utility connections they hadn’t known the land needed. This contributed to consumers defaulting on high-interest loans, according to the lawsuit. Colony Ridge then benefited from the improvements made to the land it foreclosed on and resold the lots at higher prices.

And the reason for the firings is perfectly on brand
Last week, the F.B.I. director, Kash Patel, fired about a dozen members of an elite counterintelligence unit based in Washington whose agents and analysts specialized in stemming threats of terrorism in the Middle East. The reason for their termination: They had also been involved in the investigation into Mr. Trump’s retention of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida, after he left office in 2021.

Last night I finished Don DeLillo’s 1988 historical fiction novel Libra. I was skeptical going in—so many 11/22/63 stories—but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cool blend of fact and fiction + wonderful writing.

Just received an email announcing MLS games will be included with Apple TV subscriptions (in US) beginning next season. No clue about the numbers but I'm guessing MLS Season Pass was a major bust.
As an MLS Fan, we're letting you know that starting in 2026 all Major League Soccer broadcasts and exclusive programming will be part of an Apple TV subscription — at no additional cost. The standalone MLS Season Pass Service will no longer be offered as a separate subscription.

Apple TV subscribers will have access to every MLS match starting next season, as well as hundreds of exclusive Apple Original shows and movies, weekly MLB games with Friday Night Baseball and all Formula 1® races starting in 2026 for
U.S. viewers.*

LOL I love how Mustafa Suleyman warns about the dangers of model welfare by just listing the dangers of AI in general.
Screenshot from Wired.com…

Quote from Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI:

“This is both premature, and frankly dangerous,” Suleyman wrote, referring generally to the field of model welfare research. “All of this will exacerbate delusions, create yet more dependence-related problems, prey on our psychological vulnerabilities, introduce new dimensions of polarization, complicate existing struggles for rights, and create a huge new category error for society.”

The most underreported tragedy in the world is about to get worse. #Sudan
Screenshot from Reuters: CAIRO, Feb 26 (Reuters) - The World Food Programme, the largest provider of food aid in Sudan, said on Wednesday it was forced to pause food distributions in Sudan's famine-plagued Zamzam camp in North Darfur.
The camp has been the target of repeated attacks by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces who seek to uproot the army and allied forces from the region.

Meet the team!
A brief bio and headshot of a recent DOGE hire posted ProPublica’s website:

Alexandra T. Beynon, 36

Connected to: Executive Office of the President
Beynon is an official member of the DOGE team, according to federal records viewed by ProPublica and media reports. According to her LinkedIn page, she most recently worked as the head of engineering at her husband’s startup, Mindbloom, which provides “guided at-home ketamine therapy.” She previously worked as a software developer at investment banking company Goldman Sachs. When reached by ProPublica and asked about her involvement in the new administration and DOGE, she said, “I have no idea what you are talking about.” She did not respond to additional requests for comment.

I’m sure this will be reassuring to businesses already apprehensive of building audiences and posting on X. The whole “I own your brand forever” pitch is flawless. Another masterstroke from the daring iconoclast. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/26/b...
Musk’s lawyers argue that X accounts are not actually owned by users — and hence can’t be sold off. They say X’s terms and conditions make this clear. To underscore this, they note that X has the right to suspend or terminate accounts.

“X Corp. is plainly the owner of the X Accounts and the Services, and the Trustee cannot sell, assign, or otherwise transfer what it does not own or have an interest in,” the objection states.
