Fascinating find in a museum in Stari Grad, on the island of Hvar in Croatia. This is a clay mold from around 300 BCE, used by Ancient Greeks to make game pieces! Games are truly universal. (Nearby, a clay tablet was found accusing the devs of being lazy.)
An ancient stone mold - Greek, from around 300 BCE - used for making clay game pieces! An example piece is shown in the mold, looking very much like a Chess pawn. This is located on a museum in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, Croatia.

Yo, ALX folks! Anyone have an appliance repair guy that they like and trust? The water supply valve on our fridge has been broken for a while and I need my ice maker back! Any leads appreciated!

Hive mind, can you share some restaurant recs for Minneapolis? I have a work trip there in two weeks and we need to make dinner plans Importantly, we will not be renting a car and need to stay downtown (please don't say "I swear this spot is worth the 20 minute Uber ride to...")

I just kind of wanna be in a punk band and work on cars in my garage. I do not have a garage. Nor am I qualified enough, a musician to be in any kind of band. Today is full of challenges.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.

What's behind this tidal wave of epidemics? In the largest study ever conducted on emerging infectious diseases, we show that the popular explanation - "our relationship with nature is out of balance" - doesn't hold up. Out now in Nature, after half a decade of work: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Yesterday was the first day of my #wargaming course at Georgetown. Former cohorts have designed games for the US Army that have been turned into official boxed games and other teams have traveled around the world - to Peru & Colombia to run their games. Can't wait to see what this cohort does.

A tetanus-diphtheria vaccine that doesn’t need a fridge has passed its first human trial. UK scientists reformulated a licensed shot using trehalose, the sugar that lets desert plants survive without water, keeping it stable for up to two years at 30°C. Gavi buff.ly/1kNIUHB #ShareGoodNewsToo
