One of the best #vintage (1922) #infographics shows the human machine. There is even an animated version on industriepalast.com

This vintage map from 1942 shows the Pacific. Nice touch that it talks about the projection it uses in the top right corner too. I love maps that are centered around the Pacific because they show just how isolated #Hawaii is. Source: buff.ly/2OuFciJ

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

One of America’s Last Chestnut Groves Is About to Be Destroyed for a Data Center
A rare 200-tree American chestnut grove in West Virginia may be cleared for data-center development, but the project denies the site is on its land.

1/x Two of the best-known coats on any high street began as working kit for sailors on cold decks. Both carry names from my little corner of the North Sea: Duffel, a small town near Antwerp, and the Dutch word "pij". The story of the duffel coat and the peacoat. #maritimehistory

I like them, but only because they were real winters. Skiing and sledding and hot cider with vanilla ice cream down in the old port. If you’re gonna have winter, you might as well get snow sports out of it. 36 and rain is BS.

#SteveThoughts
Description: A cartoon otter named Steve, wearing a necktie and a badge, sits behind a cluttered news desk in a simple blue-grey office illustration.

Text in image:
“So we have actual fact checkers who know all the facts?
Why not create a TV channel where they just give us the facts?
We could call it the News.
#SteveThoughts”

On the otter’s badge: “Steve”
In the bottom corner (signature): “In Ötter News”

Fascinating find in a museum in Stari Grad, on the island of Hvar in Croatia. This is a clay mold from around 300 BCE, used by Ancient Greeks to make game pieces! Games are truly universal. (Nearby, a clay tablet was found accusing the devs of being lazy.)
An ancient stone mold - Greek, from around 300 BCE - used for making clay game pieces! An example piece is shown in the mold, looking very much like a Chess pawn. This is located on a museum in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, Croatia.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.
