One of my first convention memories is playing Pirateer (boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/38...), a clever light game in a long box, all about rolling d6s and being a pirate. Advance 40+ years, and now we have Six-Sided Seas, which fills the same shape & niche, giving each d6 more things to do.

On each end of the mat is a pirate ship. In between are islands. Various blue and red dice are placed in boxes corresponding to parts of the ship. Also, there is a coin track on each player's right, showing how rich they are or something.

Top: Six-Sided Seas, in a long green cardboard box, with a busty red-headed pirate captain on one side, and a lid that will not close every again.

Bottom: Pirateer, the game of outrageous fortune. It says so on its long blue metal box, upon which a faint white square grid can be seen. This is an image of the board; if you look closely, there are small islands.

YES! Strange New Worlds delivered this week with not only a classic Trek episode, but one of the very best at that. Kirk and Spock with some of their best moments, among many others. "Orders of Magnitude" made wading through all the dreck worthwhile. Would have been a worthy movie.
