Computers have always been so dumb as to be funny, but I've noticed a definite uptick in "new kinds of stupid" since vibecoding came in.
Security question: What is your pet's name? Answer: Doug. Error: Answer must be at least 5 characters.

I’m honestly just disgusted. Sick of having to watch Alleged Intelligence and its fraudulent proponents recieve an eternal blowjob from a procession of grown adults who’ve torched their dignity, each craven gobbler pretending they can’t see the Emperor’s naked, prolapsed anus.

Only one of the words in “artificial intelligence” is relevant to the technology being described, so of course that’s the word they want to get rid of. Then again, the new term is now 100% inaccurate bullshit and deeply pathetic, which is at least thematically appropriate.

Does my Speak-n-Spell feel pain when I type O-U-C-H? The jury is out. Philosophers and neuroscientists say that's fucking stupid, but I called a guy from the Center for Pretending that Household Electronics Are Sentient and he said there's no way to know for sure.

AI has exposed the austerity con game in higher ed. For years, we have been told there is no money for students, faculty, staff, capital improvements, libraries. But somehow universities have suddenly come up with the money to pay for AI services??

just saw the most deranged ad of my life. for google gemini. about how google search is too complicated to parse now. so she used google gemini to summarize how to help her upset fish. and it told her to buy her fish a tiny couch. and she bought her fish a tiny couch. and that’s the end of the ad

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.

What's bothering me about AI on Bluesky, and which for the sake of civility I have been biting my tongue about probably more than I should, is the increasing number of people willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that *all of these products* are built with stolen labor and copyright violations.

Every time you use an LLM, you are exploiting someone else's unpaid labor. *EVERY TIME* As long as LLMs are built on data sets derived from stolen work, THEY CANNOT BE USED ETHICALLY. You are committing an ethical violation every time you use one.

The famous Furby-to-Collagen pipeline.
Ad found on Instagram featuring a pink Furby and a pair of hands holding a pot of supplements like it’s Simba from hit movie The Simba Kings. They’re either side of a screen split down the middle, dual backgrounds reflecting the flesh of a Swizzel’s Drumstick with its pink and pinksome-white color scheme.

The motive for this arrangement of imagery and colors is revealed by two wry textboxes which have manifested above the central subjects like they’re two Mufasas when Mufasa became a Cloud Cat after getting his head kicked in by monster cows. The first box says, “If you had one of these,” in reference to the Furby, and the second claims, “it’s time to start taking collagen.”

Basic ad language sensibility suggests the second box *should* have said, “it’s time to take these,” creating an affirming and linguistically satisfying echo between the setup box and its payoff counterpart. The final copy instead betrays a lack of confidence in the Feel brand. It says the company needs to buck working convention for the worse in service of clarifying a confusing product. It’s fucking supplements mate, we know what shape pot they come in, you don’t have to tell us.

Also fuck you Furbies are still relevant.
