I just started reading this book about infrastructure, and it's so well written and so smart and appealing about what infrastructure is and what it means and how it connects us in ways people don't always think about on a daily basis.
Book cover shows a close-up of pavement with some yellow and pink spray-painted signs on it. Title: how infrastructure works: inside the systems that shape our world. Author: Deb Chachra

in reality Democrats are the only US party interested in child benefits. conservatives and centrists hate the welfare state, they think the working class must be forced to work by the threat of destitution. so every policy must have a work requirement, which is impossible for stay at home parents

you could do it like a classic European socdem-Christian Dem compromise, we get free daycare, you get stay at home parent subsidy. if Republicans wanted to offer that bargain to, say, President AOC I guarantee she'd accept it in a heartbeat

Norway has solution to this actually, stay at home parents can get their share of the public daycare subsidy as cash, that way parents are not pushed one way or the other. the problem of course is virtually no one on the center or right actually gives a shit about parents

It really gives the game away when the anti trans orgs are calling the election of the neo nazi party in Germany a "glimmer of hope."
A screenshot of an online article headline from "Inspecting Gender" by Genspect. The main heading reads: "Germany: A Glimmer of Hope for Sex Realists?" Below the title, the summary text asks: "Is the victory of the AfD in Germany a dark day for democracy or a glimmer of hope for sex realists? By David Allison." The bottom metadata displays the Genspect logo, "5 hours ago," and a "Listen" audio option button. In the top right corner, there is a teal "Subscribe" button alongside a circular profile avatar.

What’s my point? That men are never justified when they dislike a woman? No. I am saying you should analyze the power dynamics of the situation and ask why, when men are the only ones to identify a woman as a problem, why is it only men? What are their political commitments and actions?

Rape culture is structured by the incident of rape and other forms of sexual assault, yes. But it is also structured by the assaulter’s impression of what the consequences might be. Structured by the unfettered harassment anti-assault advocates face. Given shape by bad behavior being given a pass.
