#OnThisDay in 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment, securing the number of states needed to add it to the US Constitution. The struggle for voting rights was far from over, as restrictions continued to disenfranchise Black women & other women of color for decades.

Aug. 6, 1926: Paolina Schiff, a writer-activist who in 1881 co-founded the League for the Promotion of the Interests of Women, Italy's first woman suffrage organization, dies at 85 in Milan. The German-born pacifist also organized international peace and women's rights conferences.

[May 29th, 1926] The International Suffrage Congress in Paris passed a resolution for unrestricted business equality. Despite fierce opposition from the League of Women Voters and some French delegates, the measure passed 70 to 38. This marks a significant step for the global women's rights movement

🧵✨ London 1912, the International Suffrage Fair at Chelsea counted with the presence of the Cranford ladies (from Gaskell’s novel) 💪 On the suffrage stage, Miss Pole was “even more aggressive” than in the novel! 🗳️‍♀️ The scene was chosen for its humour and used to demand “Votes for Women!”
