Learning another language appears to slow brain ageing, scientists say
Study finds those who speak two languages have brains that appear around six years younger than those who speak one Learning another language could slow ageing in the brain by up to 13 years, according to research. People who speak more than one language seem to have younger brains and the more languages you speak and the earlier you speak them, the better, according to findings from a study being presented at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies conference in Barcelona. I think one thing the AI age has taught me is how many of my colleagues: 1. genuinely hate writing. 2. are bad at writing. 3. are bad at assessing writing. 4. really do not care about how the writing gets done. Which seems bad, because writing=thinking.

I’ve enjoyed eating at Clover Food Lab since it was a wee truck parked at lunchtime on a side street near my campus. It thrived & spread thru Boston. Bringing fresh farm-to-table to fast casual eating. Now the whole business is suddenly closing & leaving a hole in my heart & stomach.

Morning re-reading: Stephanie Syjuco, ‘The Unruly Archive’ 🤓
Cover of Stephanie Syjuco’s The Unruly Archive — it is designed to look like an archival folder“This book simulates a type of forensics.

Like the process of physically excavating an archive … a search through a body that was embalmed and catalogued years ago. In this case it simulates what it is like to piece together a vision of an entire country of people — the Philippines, Filipinos, and by extension Filipino Americans — through the lens of the American colonial archive.”A historical photo of a woman — her face is obscured by a person’s fingersDefinitions of unruly (disorderly and disruptive) and archive (a place where … historical documents are kept)

She actually only used the name Ruza Wenclawska (or Ruza Wenclaw) when she started acting and publishing poetry. During the suffrage movement she used the Americanized version of her name, Rose Winslow. The musical probably uses her Polish name to emphasize her status as an immigrant. #hatm
