David Goa, a friend and mentor, interviewed me for the new episode of his podcast, "In Conversation." I interviewed him for MY podcast a few years back (one of my all-time fav Sprawlcast episodes). Now the tables have turned! Enjoy. www.davidgoa.ca/jeremy-klaszus

There is a big new @sprawlcalgary.bsky.social story coming. Was supposed to come out last weekend. Then this morning. Now tomorrow. Can't quite stick the landing on it. But need to get the damn thing out the door. Wait for it!

I just used the word "ballyhooed" in a story. That makes my day.

Thinking it's time to print brothels on The Sprawl's Pop-Up Press. Yes, brothels. Not this week, trying to get a piece finished for this weekend, but maybe Monday or Tuesday. You heard it here first!

Also common now: greeting someone in the neighbourhood with a "hello" and getting no response. They can't even hear it. But I guess listening to a bunch of podcasts makes one "smarter"...

A chilly, dreary day was made brighter and warmer by attending @sprawlcalgary.bsky.social's printing pop-up to spend time with @klaszus.bsky.social and @calgaryhester.bsky.social along with others, serendipitously, from The Sprawl's readership community. 🇨🇦 Let community lift you, friends.💗
Beatrice, Sam, and I ride our bicycles down a quiet residential street with Calgary's downtown cityscape prominent in the background. Fall foliage dots the road surface, and a tree with a yellowing canopy is prominent at the top of the frame.Sam operates a 1960-era mobile printing press to make a special two-colour print that briefly tells the story of George Stanley's design for Canada's new flag, adopted in 1965. The press is mounted in the cargo hold of a tricycle cargo bicycle. The resulting print, with artwork done by Sam Hester. It contains the illustration of a George Stanley and the new Flag of Canada. The print reads, "George Stanley, a born-and-raised Albertan, designed Canada's Flag in 1964. Recalling his Calgary childhood, he made this sketch -- a flag that kids could easily draw! He sent it off to Ottawa ... and his design ended Canada's great flag debate! 'To me the new flag was a glorious thing, bold and proud, asserting Canada's nationhood for all to see.'" The card bears the signature of Sam Hester, who illustrated it.

I want to go to New York City again but am not traveling to the U.S. at all. So no NYC. Fond memories of when I was there in 2017 though. Would get up early and go to this plaza to read the paper.

It is mortifying to find a typo in a piece you just published. Doubly so when it's in the text AND a pull quote. Although I'm told typos now indicate a human touch and that they are, in our time, kind of a good thing. Okay. Suuuure. But a good editor should not be happy with typos.
