Not necessarily saying it should be a university requirement, but I think a lot of people would benefit from taking an Intro to Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies course in college. It is not too deep into the theory, but TA'ing is opening my eyes to its important place in the university.

I came across an ad yesterday for a position that had such a weirdly strong fit I just spent three hours drafting the cover letter for it in the middle of the night. Going to edit it tomorrow, edit my website, and send it off.

All I want in life is to move to a creepy small town where my knowledge of gothic literature and the occult helps expose the town's dark underbelly through a series of folklore, unsolved crimes, curses, and conspiracies.

The Vanderbilt report and Trump’s attack on the NIH and NSF are part of the same right-wing effort to attack the authority of all peer-reviewed knowledge so that they can police what researchers write, say, publish, and think to ensure it complies with corporate-friendly aims.

In fact, a key charge of the Vandy report is that non-humanistic disciplines risk being ‘infected’ by allegedly relativist humanistic methods and ideas, which is a covert attack on queer, anti-racist, and decolonial methods in scientific inquiry. So yes, the Vandy report is an attack on science.

Working on writing up an early draft of my Shenandoah Chapter and spent most of today writing up on Gothic photography. Honestly its fun, most of the (limited) secondary I am working with on the topic are tied to the terror-era of gothic criticism so I have some space to write my own thoughts.

I recently published an article on an esoteric historical subject. It took me years. AI could not have researched and written it, and even if it could, relying on AI to do these things would have deprived me of the knowledge and joy I gained doing something I love to do and is worthwhile.

It needs to be stated over and over - this isn't just a matter of errors: The point is that LLM AI is literally incapable of reviewing or validating research data. It absolutely cannot do that job, at all, ever. But it is very good at generating something that looks like a convincing review.
First, I’d created 2000 free-text responses and labelled them ‘UK’. Then I copied and pasted the exact same 2000 responses but labelled these ‘US’. Finally, I combined them to create a dataset of 4000 total responses, and jumbled them up.

Despite the responses being identical for the UK and US, Copilot produced a rich, detailed summary of how US and UK respondents differed.
