Some photographs from my fieldwork in the Shenandoah Valley this month.

A blue-tinted picture of the moon rising over a worn shed with a painted American flag.

An angel statue rests on a stump in a grove of trees.

A dilapidated shed with debris and yard equipment strewn about.

A single figure stands on a bridge over the Shenandoah River.

Made these gothic-inspired mood boards as samples for my students when we talked about the relationship between personal aesthetics and identity on the internet for internet aesthetics week in my internet history class.

A mood board curating images for an Appalachian Gothic aesthetic including wood paneled interiors, deer, kudze, and foggy forests.

A moodboard displaying gothic images of different American regions from abandoned buildings in the plains, tornadoes, and the American Southwest.

Did not expect to be back in College Park so soon after ASLE last time I was here.

Accidentally attempted one of the most challenging sections of this trail which I had purposefully tried to avoid and got two miles in before deciding to calling it. Slope for the path seemed too challenging and did not want to risk falling into the ocean. Still got to see some incredible views.

I don't care what anyone says, watching Jacksepticeye's playthrough of Still Wakes the Deep counts as work for my diss proposal.

Part of last week and this week's readings. Very much looking forward to digging into Summer Sons tomorrow after reading The Woods All Black last summer.

A spread of horror and gothic novels and collections the tweet's author is reading for their doctoral comprehensive exam. Titles include Pet Sematary by Stephen King, Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo, Absalom, Absalom! by William Faulkner, Child of God by Cormac McCarthy, and a collection of Shirley Jackson's short stories and novels.

First official comps book down! Enjoyed this read by @neilverma.bsky.social a lot as it talked in depth about the relationship between memory and audio dramas, which makes it difficult to write a history as there is sort of a perpetual amnesia among critics and creators.

Spotify wrapped is out, and so is the list of podcasts I will be writing about for the next two years.
