Historic England's current images failure (thanks to choices & outsourcing) sucks, but the killing off of decades old urls without reforwarding is frustratingly & annoyingly common with orgs such as uni & history/heritage projects. Summary on H.E. issue by @timdaw.bsky.social

Days after sharing @johnnythin.bsky.social post on a flint arrow forger in Brandon in 1926 who said he was self taught as a kid, I find mention in Gentleman's Magazine of a flint arrow forger from Brandon, but this is from 1857! 70 years earlier.

Cool thread on C20 flint knapping just down the road from Neolithic flint mines of Grimes Graves. Including arrow heads & mace heads from Mr Spalding who taught himself knapping as a kid to prove visiting professors wrong.

Channel 5s Rich Lives, Poor Lives could have been an interesting concept for a light look at bits of history except for their decision to insert atrocious and pointless AI videos.

Solstice ritual of new Stonehenge info. I've known a tiny bit about this 1 & the people involved were well aware how 'crackpot' the observation seemed so spent time checking. While the local geography might help the general line & a 2 point alignment is not ideal it's still an interesting nugget.

Simpler, older version of Stonehenge found three miles from famous site
The structure consisted of two posts that lined up with the solstices 5,000 years ago.

I'm sure we all know a Hans Buchmann who, in 1572, got drunk, lost some of his clothes & fought off invisible bees before flying to Milan, couldn't remember how he got there and returned home without eyebrows. From Cysat's Collectanae Chronica. #hangover #folklore

Need ££ so decide to sell my vinyl & decks that's been boxed, unplayed, unused, for years after a move. Visually check records & think these need playing to check condition. Spend ££ on new cartridge/stylus, cleaning kit, fixing amp parts, new inner sleeves etc. Keeps records.

This Mesolithic amber figurine from Denmark is conclusive proof that The Wombles were around long before the 70s.
A mall orange figurine carved from amber, with a long snout, facing right. Officially it is a bear, but it has the distinctive whiff of Bungo to us.

History is our memory. When I was involved in the anti-poll tax rebellion of the 1990s something that was often mentioned was the anti-poll tax rising of the 1380s. 600 years earlier. As an inspiration and responsibility to stand up again. We have long memories & this time we won.

Is this one of the early fathers of Father Christmas? The carol 'Sir Christemas' from C15. Possibly 1 of the earliest personifications of Christmas. (from Oxford Bk of Carols -orig in Ritson MS)
Sheet of music and words. Titled Sir Christemas. dated c1500. Words include: "Nowell (repeated), Who is there? I am here Sir Christemas."
