The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm Francis Young - A History of European Fairy Traditions @drfrancisyoung.bsky.social Lesser known fairies of Europe Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 6/9
Francis Young resembles a hobbit-lawyer in this image. A friendly face, with thick dark hair, bear and eyes, considering something seriously. He is in a yellow bricked room, rather like a police cell, and is dressed in an immaculate sky blue shirt and a softer, dark tan waistcoat in some softer material.
This is who you would want to come and see you if you find yourself in Hobbit prison after some unfortunate firework or dwarf home-invasion incident. Here a classic looking cover that is beautiful in it's simplicity. 'Fairies' at the top, 'Francis Young' at the bottom in some long font with a lazy but elegant serif to it. In the centre is a green circle showing a verdent wood where a nuch small 'A History' is centred.

Next EdFortSoc: 9th September

Gordon Rutter will talk on Siberian Cauldrons.

Not a cookery lesson nor an investigation into Baba Yaga.

Amongst other things the Siberian Cauldrons have been claimed as a global defence system – and some say they were responsible for the Tunguska event!

They are in fact giant, mysterious copper or metal dome-shaped objects rumoured to be hidden in a remote swampy region of Yakutia, Russia, known as the “Valley of Death” Apparently.

Come along to find out about this little known piece of Fortean Folklore and find out what has happened to those who went looking for them. And find out why I didn’t go looking for them!

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm @conwayhall.bsky.social and online Jeremy Harte - Mad, Bad or Sad? Ghost Monks and their Hidden Treasures @reaktionbooks.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 8/9
Let us gaze on Jeremy Harte in this picture. Semi formal in white shirt and grey jacket but the white blows through his white hair and you get a sense that his moustache, too, is ruffled.
He sits at the front of a classic, wooded gypsy caravan, painted in bright greens and yellows decorated by grapes and other fruit.
Jeremy gaze looks weary at first but look longer into those eyes, there is a calm curiosity and compassion there. This is a man who has witness wonders, in life as well as in libraries, and he is here to share some with you.

A simple woodcut cover of a man digging a hole in the ground to bury a trunk of treasure. Some coins sit in front of the chest to confirm this. The only witnesses to this scene is the moon, stars and a single, solitary, skulking cloud.

The text on the cover is 'Treasures on Earth: Buried Wealth in Landscape and Legend'. 'Jeremy Harte'.

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm Jo Hickey-Hall - Modern Fairy Sightings: Personal Encounters in Extraordinary Times @watkinswisdom.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 7/9
Jo Hickey-Hall emerges from the maw of an almost entitrely hollow tree. It's a huge, empty tree trunk capcious enough to fit five or six Jo Hickey-Hall's into it. This yawning sylvan monster have smaller trees and bushes growing around it.
Jo wears a white summer dress with a floral pattern and has her straw hat in her hand, as if paying some respect of this vast, void tree. Did she encounter something supernatural within this space? Only she can tell you that if, indeed, she is able to tell. A book cover that looks like the top of a box of tissues. A black base decorated with flowers. A gold diamond outline around the title 'Modern Fairy Sightings' looking like the performated section the tissues can we reached for.

Rest assured, though, dear reader, this book will contain many greater wonders than tissues.

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm London & online Sara Hannant - Panic: Visions of the Horned God Sara’s magical journey in search of Pan. @strangeattractor.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 3/9
A statue of Pan stands in a wood and appears to be gazing out toward the opening between the trees. The image is blurred to give a sense of disorientation or panic. Sara Hannant looks out from the photograph as if she is gazing at your very soul and is not sure what to make of what she has seen there. She is in black with back lit dark red hair. She wears a silver pendant as well as earrings that appear to have lost themselves in her hair.

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm In London & Online Marion Gibson - Welcome to Witchland: Recovering the Stories of Britain's Civil War Witches @witchesetc.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 5/9
Marion Gibson sits in the remains of a large stone church; a wall ends in a point in a distance with a Celtic cross on its apex. Empty windows that once held stained glass are beneath them. Marion looks into the camera. She wears an orange and brown broad check jacket with huge blue and purple scarf (pashmina?) that looks to be creeping off her shoulders and towards the viewer. This cover for Witchland, subheading 'A tale of witch hunting and war in seventeenth century Britain'. It's frantic. It looks like an engraving of naked, voluptous witches sitting in a tangled wood. One might be riding a goat in mid-air while holding a smoke urn on the end of a long crook. IT's hard to tell because, while the witches are all rosy with coppery gold hair, the rest of the scene is covered in magenta. I can see a magenta cat sulking in the bottom right corner. It that a magenta demon hiding in the smoke of the urn? I don't know. This book cover is a carnival.

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm Fiona Robertson - Stone Lands: A Journey Through Britain’s Ancient Places Megaliths, demons, ghosts, witches @stonelands.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 4/9
A jagged grey megalith cuts through the centre of the image, seemingly stabbing a blue patch of sky, pushing the clouds to the side. Fiona Robertson, the true subject of this image, sits against this ferocious rock in the bottom left of the picture. She is black haired, black shirt and shirt and dark blue jeans, seating on the verdant ground. You can see the mud-clumped soles of her walking boots. She grins into the camera. The cover of Fiona's book Stone Lands: A Journey Through DArkness ans Light Through Britain's Ancient Places. It in the style of an engraving or line and ink drawing, all black and blue. A stone circle reaches up from the ground, backed by trees with a mountain above them. Sun beams scatter from a blue cloud above all.

The Haunted Landscape 2026: Magic, Fairies and Old Gods Saturday 21 November 2026 10 am - 5 pm London and online Ronald Hutton - The Return of the Horned God The emergence of Pan, the god of the wild. @strangeattractor.bsky.social Details and tickets forteanlondon.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... 2/9
Professor Ronald Hutton smiles in what looked like a stone and red panelled dungeon. He wears a brown tweed / check jacket and glossy brown waistcoat and cravat. His hair is brown and shoulder length. He is wearing glasses. A full length, seated, figure of the Greek God Pan. His lower half is goat, his upper is muscular man with a goat-y beard and horns. He is rendered in pale stone and is in a room of similar pale stone. The window behind Pan is barred, presumably to prevent him from escaping when the mood takes him.
