England’s national museums to remain free to overseas visitors
DCMS decision comes in response to Margaret Hodge review that proposed charging international tourists Overseas visitors will continue to have free entry to England’s national museums after ministers decided against charging them after months of discussions between the government, museums, the tourism sector and local leaders. Ministers said in March that “charging international visitors at national museums could provide significant benefits” as they promised to explore options including examining whether making overseas tourists pay could boost the institutions’ finances. A close-up photograph of the rugged, joyful countenance of American polar explorer Ann Bancroft (born September 29, 1955), the first woman to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles. Set against a stark, high-key backdrop of a vast, white Arctic or Antarctic ice expanse under an overcast, pale sky, she looks directly at the camera with a wide, radiant smile that crinkles her eyes. Her weather-beaten face is flushed pink from the intense polar cold. Her dark, graying hair is windblown and messy, held back by dark, reflective sunglasses resting atop her head. She wears heavy polar expedition gear, including a dark navy jacket with a thick, fluffy brown fur-trimmed hood framing her face, layered over a bright purple collar, a red knit undershirt, and a visible zipper. The composition centers on her resilient expression, conveying a triumphant, adventurous, and authentic mood that highlights her historical significance as a barrier-breaking explorer.

No one should be making a profit from children's care Add your name to our petition calling for an end to profit in children's social care: vist.ly/5kcqu
Screenshot of a We OWn It tweet that says "A National Care Service is long overdue and a welcome step. But if we're serious about building a care system that works, children's social care must be at the heart of it. Right now, an average children's home placement costs councils around £404k per year. And in 2021/22, the largest independent children's social care providers recorded £310 million in profit, from the public purse. Andy Burnham is right to say that we need a system with “care that is about people, not profit”. Reforms of social care must end profit in children’s social care. No one should be making profit from the the most vulnerable children."
