Don't perjure yourself. You're under oath. Isn't it true that you are a fast food restaurant chain founded in San Diego in the 1950s, that features chicken tenders, and tacos. "Senator, I think you have mistaken me for Jack in the Box.'

Happy 5th anniversary to this all timer of a tweet from History PhD and general knower of things, Newt Gingrich. Remind me again, what are George Washington and Robert E Lee best known for?
Newt Gingrich @newtgingrich
Washington and Lee University's course on "how to overthrow the state" is one further sign of the insanity taking over higher education. The alumni should rise up and show how to overthrow a crazy college administration.

I for one feel so much safer knowing that the future of the American military will be determined by the reanimated corpse of Henry Ford, Temu Isaac Asimov, and Matt Gaetz’s Hawaiian shirt and flip flop wearing gamer bro brother in law.

But, I guess, going through the experience of having to support - and with zeal - people like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss not only disgracing that post, but being rewarded with a promotion to PM for disgracing it, shatters something inside that even these pro fluffers struggle to recover from.

You know, children, there was a time, not so long ago, when serious journalists - even right wing propagandists cosplaying objectivity - would applaud an experienced, even-tempered Foreign Secretary, like Hague or Hammond, being a bit dry, rather than jumping on stuff as if they were Perez Hilton.

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

Not all the work makes the big headlines, but that doesn't mean it isn't important. Last week, I secured a win against a debt collection company that was taking people's cars to coerce them into paying. Now, that company can't work in Massachusetts, and consumers are getting $52 million in relief.

Well, *fuck*. California AG Rob Bonta just surrendered to the Trump-aligned billionaires who want to take over and destroy Warners, merging it with the chudded-out husk of Paramount, leaving these two corrupt assholes to control Warners, Paramount *and* Tiktok: www.reuters.com/legal/litiga...

The Warner Brothers tower. It has been tinted orange and is leaning at a 30-40' angle. It is surmounted by Trump's hair. The tower is wavering. The background is ominous, red-tinged clouds, through which peek a marching army of banner-waving demons.

The Dickin Medal is the highest award that can be issued to animals in British military service. Bearing the words "We Also Serve" it has been awarded 75 times since its creation in 1943. Only one cat has ever received the award. This is the story of Able Seacat Simon, of HMS Amethyst. 🧵 1/25

Hey Ed Sheeran – Reading a statement is never an apology. A statement written by an attorney or your PR team is never an apology. Genocide is never a "complex political issue". Choosing to side with a billionaire rather than your "friend" is not friendship. Not living up to your lyrics is a façade.

1. This is a naked attack on press freedom by a president who hates it. 2. There are limits to the president's ability to carry out this threat thanks to the First Amendment. 3. It's also a threat to the "Other Fake News Media Outlets" who can face similar punishment based on their reporting.

#ResistanceRoots Today in history, 1873: Jay Cooke & Company declares bankruptcy, sparking the Panic of 1873. The catastrophic financial crisis lasted longer than the Great Depression and was in many ways more brutal for ordinary people. We can trace who we are today to its economic devastation. /1
“The Rush from the New York Stock Exchange on September 18, 1873,” by Howard Pyle. There are clear parallels between the Panic of 1873 and today. The crisis wasn’t caused by a lack of wealth. It was caused by irrational exuberance over a revolutionary technology: the railroad. Investors poured billions into laying tracks that led nowhere, assuming the boom would never end. The post-Civil War era also saw the rise of the first mega-corporations, which wielded total control over their employees’ lives and wages. A divide opened between struggling farmers and workers and wealthy Eastern bankers. The farmers felt the “coastal elites” and politicians in Washington were rigging the monetary system against them. In short, the Panic of 1873 was the painful birth of modern industrial capitalism. It proved that an unregulated corporate economy could grow spectacularly, but would also crash brutally.

I'll to come right out and say it: statistical extrapolation is *fine*. One of the most useful ways to understand the present and anticipate the future is measuring the things that happened in the past, find the correlations among them, and extrapolate likely future outcomes from those correlations.
