Oh shit, yeah, I get that now. If I spent money on gear like that I’d also enforce pretty strictly who has access to changing settings.

Did you know that @npmx.dev serves 50 million requests a month, and 300+ contributors carry its ideas out into other projects? @alexdln.com and @willow.sh split "Beyond the fast lane" between how a page feels and the tooling under it @viteconf.org 2026, Thu 15 Oct (TODAY) at 2pm UTC. Free & online

The same people warning about “sharia law” are the ones demanding live streamed executions, book bans, baring journalists from the White House, eroding women’s rights, rounding up people in our streets, and legislating the Bible in schools, all in the name of “Christianity.”

We are updating our AI Policy to reduce maintenance stress. All pull requests are now automatically closed, unless they are created by maintainers or users from an approved list of contributors. The PR is not lost. If the team decides the change is worth pursuing, we will reopen it.

I get that also when driving a car around during a rainy night. When street lights or lights from other vehicles hit raindrops on my windshield I feel like I can’t see anything. Same feeling.

Actually this is a wrong article to discuss this, sorry In summary: for people with astigmatism, reading white (ish) text on a pure black background, even on an OLED, creates a halanion effect, especially when scrolling. It’s annoying but also hurts the eyes.

My tool of choice to conquer NVM & typescript packages madness is nubjs.com by @colinhacks.com Highly recommend
nubjs.com
Nub — an all-in-one toolkit for Node.js
Nub is a TypeScript-first toolkit for Node.js: run TypeScript files on stock Node, a faster npm run, a pnpm-compatible package manager, and a built-in Node version manager. No lock-in.

I miss the times when using OpenSource solutions and investing in them was the default in software development agencies rather than „oh no using Foss would offend our corporate overlords” Feel like this has gotten way worse in the AI era :(

Finally switched my wm to Niri (in part due to looking at which parts of the ecosystem were so far staying away from DHH's crusade to reshape the community). Niri is REALLY good, especially for what is AFAICT a passion project! Deserves attention and grassroots sponsorship. github.com/niri-wm/niri

If I’m keeping score correctly, so far the AI revolution has given me: - considerably worse software than before - considerably more expensive devices to run that software - considerably less opportunity to make the money needed to buy those devices

A thread, because things are feeling rough at present. 🧵👇 I'm not quite sure where to go or what to do. I'm watching my peers slowly burn out, go quiet, quit the industry, or struggle on hoping it'll get better in time. Even if the storm is weathered, what comes out the other side?

Wczoraj minęło pięć lat odkąd 19-letni wtedy Kacper usmażył jajecznicę na rozgrzanym betonie krzeszowickiego rynku. Polityka apelowania do rządzących o adaptację miast do zmian klimatu nie działa, bo rządzący nie słuchają. W polskich miastach nadal panuje powszechna betonoza.

Lots of eye-popping takeaways in this report, but this one hit me the hardest.
7. The most experienced people in your organization are being buried. We call it the senior engineer tax.

AI-generated code presents a specific and under-appreciated challenge for reviewers. It is often superficially convincing: idiomatic, well-named, stylistically consistent with the surrounding codebase. It looks like code written by someone who knows what they are doing. The structural and logical failures, when they exist, are beneath the surface. Catching them requires a reviewer to read carefully, reason about intent, and reconstruct the problem the code was meant to solve, rather than scanning for obvious errors. That is slow, expensive cognitive work, and the data reflects it. Median time to first PR review is up 156.6%. Average time spent in code review is up 199.6%. Median time in review is up 441.5%. The engineers with the deepest knowledge of the system are spending their most valuable hours unraveling plausible-looking code that should never have reached them in the state it did.

Reporting the same security issue to pnpm vs bun: pnpm acknowledged it quickly, shipped a fix, backported it, and published an advisory. bun never acknowledged, silently fixed this and another issue I reported, has not published advisories. One takes security more seriously.
Prompt response from pnpm. Fixed and published. No response on github from bun.No response from bun on email.
