It can load reasonably large trees (~100,000 tips) and provides ways of navigating, digging down into clades, hiding branches, finding tips, creating filters, highlighting parts of the tree etc.

If you are not familiar with it, PearTree is the replacement for the increasingly creaking FigTree phylogenetic tree viewer. Available as a desktop app and a webapp (which can be embedded in other sites). github.com/artic-networ... for more details. There is even a manual: peartree.live/manual

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

We now have more questions than when we started! Why do chromosomes break where they do? We found no indication for specific features that explain breaking points in other systems. How do new centromeres evolve? What is the interaction btw fissions and reproduct isolation? Guenons keep on giving!

Katerina Guschanski @kguschan.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Focusing on three instances of ancient introgression, we show that these rearrangements reduce gene flow but do not stop it. Most fissions are not centromeric and require the evolution of new centromeres.

Katerina Guschanski @kguschan.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We assemble 8 new guenon genomes and show that they evolve primarily through fissions. Many fissions must have circulated for millions of years, calling into question the negative consequences of these genomic rearrangements. Some fissions could have been shared during ancient introgression events!
